I don't wish the boy an injury.... But I will be happy not see his winging, sulky, miserable face on the pitch for a while.

He would never be allowed to do what he does or get away with things if he went to a "top 6" side! we are still a better side with him in it! he is 29 this year and wont change only a few more years left for him at the club

Sadly, that level of brilliance is usually accompanied by that level of petulance. Go up the quality scale further - Messi Maradona Cruyff Ronaldo - all have/had those characteristics in spades. Players who just get on with it are generally down the scale. Journeymen. No doubt some bright sparks will list "greats" who were not like that. If they do, can they be flair players; and ideally post 1980.

Zaha is too inconsistent to be up there amongst the very best. However, for Palace he definitely is up there with the best who have ever played for us. Without Zaha, we would still be a Championship side.....that's how important he was. When he leaves none of us will be sure if Palace can stay in the Premiership, it'll be a massive test. As for his personality, he has a sense of victimhood and entitlement that pulls down his game. However the talent level is beyond teaching and has been vital to the success this club has had. People forget where we were and how bigger clubs than us stayed in the Championship while we rose....through a combination of luck at the right time, brilliant signings and once in a generation academy players like Zaha. The puzzle is that he doesn't seem involved with the rest of the team. He doesn't join goal celebrations and is very muted even when he scores himself. You get the feeling that he doesn't really want to be out there and is still annoyed that he didn't get a transfer. There seems to be a simmering anger that boils over, like with his stupid yellow v Wolves. I say all that as someone who admires his skills enormously and feels that we have been lucky to have such a gifted player all this time. He was and is crucial to our staying in the division, as the stats show - i.e. how few games we win when he is not playing. I just wish he would sort out his feelings, or someone would help him to do so.

That's like saying Salah is a good at heading because he scored one. Salah BTW is about 5 ft 7 whereas Wilf is almost 6 foot. He doesn't even make a challenge for the ball when the keeper kicks. My point is he's not a natural header of the ball and has never tried to improve that part of his game.

I'm not surprised he's more petulant at the moment. Another transfer window has passed without any large, successful club pitching in an offer and he looks more and more unlikely to ever win a decent trophy. He also became a father again only 10 weeks ago. Sleepless nights, family pressures etc are enough to make anyone tired and emotional. I can forgive him his petulance - he's still the most talented and exciting player I've seen at Palace, and that includes Don Rogers, Peter Taylor, Ian Wright et al.

We are a better team with him in it and yes he has been more effective this season than last but it was going to be difficult for him to be any less effective than last season. He has lost his blistering pace and doesn’t take players on like he used to. Yes he is fouled a lot but then so are other players like Mane & Messi and they just get on with it without all the histrionics. His tantrums are embarrassing and his moaning and petulance do him no favours at all. As someone else mentioned in the Newcastle match thread last night, there is also his open displays of frustration and annoyance of playing alongside certain players of our own such as Batshuayi. He is past his best but he is still a good player and worth keeping for now, as no one in their right mind are going to pay anything decent for him. He is also one of the very few players we have who can be, at times, exciting to watch. He would just do himself a massive favour if he could sort his moaning and his attitude out. Yup agree with this for the most part. There is no logic in being a one-man for team which is effectively what we are with Zaha as the stats will show; eventually he will go, deteriorate or even retire so we need to be smart. Look at Chelsea for example, sold their best player at the right time in Hazard and rebuilt from there. Whenever or if ever Zaha gets his wish and moves to a "big club", I wouldn't be too surprised if he will be found out a bit. Mourinho doesn't take any nonsense (ask dele Alli, rose), Klopp doesn't either (ask sakho how he ended up at Palace), Guardiola came into Barca and tried to get rid of Eto'o and then Zlatan... He also put Stones out to pasture for a long time until recent events, Arsenal had Ozil out the entire squad selection this season and so on and so on. Yet we all know deep down we put up with Zaha's petulance and antics because we have no one better or other stars - essentially pampering him

Not to say his other times have been either!

He is a great player and a joy to watch. I tell you 'So what'. When he goes into one of his outstretched arms, palms up, furrow browed, moaning, petulant child episodes, he succeeds in nothing except completely losing focus and the fading from the game. My God, does anyone think that professional opponents don't notice this? They know full-well how to wind him up and, consequently, that he will blot himself out of the game as a result. The only person who hasn't realised this is the man himself. Until he addresses this self-destructive tendency, he will never mature or progress to the top level. Watch Lewandoski get kicked up i the air all the time yet keep his composure and destroy the opposition. The cool professionalism is part of what sets him apart on the world stage. Imo, Wilf is the most exciting and yet frustrating players in the division. He's ours, I love him and he is a Palace great but could be a Palace greater Edited by Glazier#1 (03 Feb 2021 3.26pm) Edited by Glazier#1 (03 Feb 2021 3.32pm)
