Poor old Water Companies. Since being privatised, they've had to divert money away from infrastructure maintenance, and give it to shareholders. "Bills could rise after water suppliers in England said they were ready to spend £10bn on tackling sewage spills. The privately owned companies have apologised for the amount of contaminated water being discharged into rivers and seas, amid mounting public anger over the practice. Some campaigners have cautiously welcomed the move, but others say firms are shifting the cost on to billpayers. The industry paid out £1.4bn to shareholders in 2022." I believe we're one of just two countries on the planet who have privatised 100% of their water supply, which speaks for itself.

I have some empathy being in opposition, because Government hog all the headlines. Especially this Government and their dedication to self-destruction. Unfortunately ,we, the population are collateral damage.

Public ownership of water you would think after this would be very popular, yet it is not labour policy, it was Corbyn's priority though. A privatisation disaster a system falling into neglect while obscene profits are made by foreign shareholders. The excuse they give, that the 150 year old Victorian system is too difficult too expensive to replace, is just not true. The pipes, sewage and treatment plants mostly date back to the 1970/80s when water was maintained and owned by the taxpayer, and was something you didn't have to think of. A racket, brought to you by the conservative party.

Privatisation was lauded as being more effective than public-owned utilities. Now we see the reality of crumbling infrastructure as money is siphoned to shareholders. The population is absolutely stuffed by the top two political parties, and almost entirely by Government.

A link to the Morning Star! Do you honestly believe that a communist system would work well for us?

My brother-in-law used to be a pilot and stayed in Cuba quite a lot. He said it was very common to find qualified doctors there working in bars as they could earn more there. The standard of living of the vast majority of people was also low with the country's infrastructure crumbling and of course they had no political freedom.

In 2022, the United Nations ranked Cuba 41st on an index of development, democracy, and equality. The US was ranked 42nd and is now regarded as a "developing country."
