Mine was at the Den 1966,although I experienced troubles in previous visits, this time I was with my Wife, shortly after we were married, along with a mate of ours.
We entered the ground at the Cold Blow Lane end,as usual, passing under the large sign "You Enter This Ground At Your Own Risk" and walked towards the terracing but could not get access,as the steps up to it were blocked, caused by too many entering that end of the ground.
They took us to the secretary's office and the Police ushered us all down to the other end of the ground, which I wasn't too keen on at the time. However,we were standing on the terracing, underneath the covered end and the there was no segregation way back then,so it was a bit intimidating.
Shortly after kick off it appeared that their fans had it in their minds to make it uncomfortable for us and it didn't take long. There was some pushing and shoving,as usual, but being use to it there was no real surprise. We then noticed they had got onto the roofing and holes appeared, which caused concern.
Then it started, they were throwing loads of the covering down on us just missing our heads but hitting others. They were shouting abuse and throwing it with the intention of causing injury to us,so we had to leg it,which wasn't easy.
We got to the the back eventually and I walked up to a Copper and told him what was going on and he didn't give a toss, saying - **** that I'll go down there when it's all finished - so we made our way along the back behind the terracing and straight out of the ground.
What a place that was!!

Yes, the Police and they are still looking for some of the culprits.

3 games spring to mind from the seventies, firstly me and my mate thought it would be a good idea to hitch hike to Liverpool for a cup game, got in to scouse land about 8.30 in the morn, Everton were at home that day as well vs Stoke bloody scousers everywhere, and we got put in the side that day right next to the kop, fun getting back to Lime st. The next one was Spurs away about 50 of us pinned in a corner of the park lane surrounded by hundreds of Spurs. And lastly (dont laugh) but Bury away it was one of only about 6 games on that day due to the weather, and everything was fine until about 2.50, when 2,000 Man City turned up cause their game at Villa had been called off, fun times.

Lots HH but one that really sticks out was a possibly Simod or somesuch game on a pissy Tuesday at Pompey.

We numbered 50 tops and after the game the police escorted all those travelling by train to the station.

By then we had dwindled to about 20 - problem was about 150 Portsmouth were waiting to board the same train. Police kept us segregated on the same platform so the local yokels knew exactly who we were.

Train comes in, we get on. No coppers get on.

As soon as we move off Pompey start...it wasnt pretty but for some bizarre reason it didnt really develop into anything full blown...thanks f*** - we were schoolkids at the time and would have been killed as I got the distinct impression they were the imfamous Pompey 657 crew.

My oustanding memory is a guy who was a dwarf who used to follow Palace whos name escape me standing in the carriage telling some hulking great yokel who had about 3 feet on him to go f*** himself and said yokel just turning tail.

I remember the "Dwarf", he used to go into the Arthur or main stand as it was called then all the time.
Never actually spoke to the fella so I don't know his name. One thing for sure though, he was always about home and away. Seen him steam in a few times, guy defiantly had some balls.

Just curious, but did we have an actual firm and what was it called?

Edited by jdavis121 (31 Jan 2011 8.08pm)

As far as I know we didn't.

There did use to be a handy set of lads from the Croydon Surrey Street market who could mix it though in the 70's.

wilton arms had a firm

and the melbourne from wallington way from memory

I seem to remember a firm called the Nifty Fifty from New Addington?, quiet a few got arrested in morning raids.

A few away games stick out

Any Brighton game but this one the most 1988ish after being bricked and having bottles thrown at us with running battles, we all made it back to the station, where Palace where all mixed in with the Seaweed, no one knew who was who, all standing on the bridge over the station, until the Police helpfully told all the passengers for London to stand on the left all passengers for Brighton on the right, there was a parting of the waves, now we all knew who was who and it kicked off big style on the bridge and down on to the platform.

Ipswich walking away from the ground some bloke asked us the way to the train station, My mate said "Sorry I don't know I don't come from around here." he was kicked to the ground, and a bloke pulled a blade on him
we knocked the bloke with the blade to the ground grabbed my mate and ran, thus spending the next 20 min in a keystone cops chase scene, we eventually got back to the car and driving out of Ipswich we ran into them again this time them chasing the car.

Bournmouth. It all kicked off in the away end after someone let off fireworks and rockets into the main stand, the police charged into the way end through the gate in front of the goal (They still had fences and gates back then) about 8 coppers got in when someone managed to shut the gate and these police were now trapped they got a good kicking, before reinforcements arrived, sadley this was the game where the Bournmouth steward got stabbed (and I think died)

regarding palace firms, back in the daywe had the "addo",the euston nippers, the whitehorse, old coulsdon,a mob from the railway pub in streatham, everybody did there own thing,in the Allison days we would take hundreds away every where,I still believe the opening day of that season was the beginning of the seaweed problem, palace went down on the night before on the town, and on the day of the match ther was about 1500 waiting for the turnstiles to open, there were pitch invasions, fighting ,and a policeman was stabbed in the Hove Park pub

If he reads these boards, Nigel Elsey from the Monks Hill Estate. Late 1980's, Norwood junction, platform 2 full of happy Leicester City fans after they had beat us. He raging, walked onto their platform (for a dare too), punched and kicked as many people as he could. They didn't know what was happening for a hood 10 seconds.....and then he disappeared under a mountain of boots and fists. When their train left he stood up covered in blood, completely battered, raised his arms in the air and screamed "YEEEAAAH".
Legendary fisticuffs I've never forgotten.

So many stories. John (on here), Craig and his bro from Croydon, Lee Mal, John (Man Utd & Leeds & Palace fans) & Curly, Roy (West Ham & Palace), Bullet, Pat, Latter, Mark, Gary & Grant (twins), Dean and a few I can't remember, our little firm from New Addington sometimes alongside Clive and Adrian. Scary but fun times.

I forgot to add the scariest away day, duh!!
Oxford, lost 5-0 got attacked by a gang of black fellas armed with
catapults that fired ball bearings and saw one of the twins get hit on the head with a claw hammer. Oh, got stabbed in the knee too. Bit of a mare that day.
