Best Manager - Sir Steve by a mile..

Favourite tho' has to be Big Mal

spot on The Sash. I was 12 ish when Big Mal became our manager and the excitment was incredible,it really got me hooked on Palace tho' I seem to remember my step-Dad grumbling at some of the changes(sounds familiar). also great cup run with trips to Roker Park,Elland Rd and Stamford Bridge. happy times. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

Bert Head because he picked us up some good players, and we played decent football.Big Mal because those day`s were some of the best being a Palace fan.He always knew how to wind up the opposition, and he did many times, with a smile on his face.76 was a good year I remember it well, that was a very good cup run.

Of course Sir Steve Coppell!. How did the fans ever let lunatic Dowie fire him? Had he stayed The Crystal Palace Story would have been totally different.

First time around Terry Venables was fantastic but a lot of the success was because of the young talent that Big Mal attracted to the club. Until he was taken ill Arthur Rowe did good things at the club

sir steve for that semi final at villa park and 3rd in league and the next was dowie for that top class run at xmas we lost to mugwall at home going no-where fast that run getting in the play offs was one of the best times following palace i know he screwed it up going to clowns but think back when he used to walk off the pitch at the end of home games that punch in the air we all waited for it , bet deep down he regrets messing up at palace

No brainer! Surely the thread should be changed to 'Who is your favourite manager apart from Steve Coppell?'

George Courtney, the World Cup referee, everyone is looking at him. When will he blow....?

Quite agree with sentiments about Big Mal but it's incredible that we were relegated twice and not promoted while he was manager. What a man though. RIP.

Bert Head - yes, we stayed up in Div 1 for 4 seasons under him and he did make some great signings - Don Rogers, John McCormick, Mel Blyth etc - but my God he made some bad ones too - Per Bartram, Sammy Goodwin etc.

It wasn't always pretty under Sir Steve but 3rd in the League and an FA Cup Final - he's streets ahead of everyone else, surely.

Zaha, Williams, Murray, Ambrose, Scannell.
