'Hijacking' of the term? It's people of a nation wishing to add what you yourself admit is security and stability to their relationships and for their families. It is an agreed definition by the population of the Republican of Ireland, not somebody steering a plane into a tower block.

Clearly if someone is gay this is an issue that is personal to them, whether or not you want to paint it as such. Don't worry yourself, this gay person will be knocking participation in General on the head. I'll stick to the rest of the site. How many gay members do we have here again? When you read some of the stuff written over the last couple of days in multiple threads that's explanation enough.

Have fun everyone.

You sensitive little soul you.

It shouldn't matter whether you are gay or not....Argue the issue in a sensible fashion....Not cry off because you don't like comments.

Hell, you support football which as a culture is probably the least 'gay' friendly sport out there.....And no I don't agree with or like the homophobic stuff you often hear.

Personally I don't care how many gay or straight people are on the forum. I most certainly wouldn't want its nature to change to suit any particular group.

Man up.

Live and let live.

And for those that think otherwise....it is not homosexuals who are not normal but your good selves. Unfortunately, you won't have the intelligence or self-awareness to see that but hey, ho!

Don't follow sorry. If it's not about religion but a legal issue, then what is wrong with a civil ceremony, as I am sure this entitles a couple to the same leagal rights, does it not?
From here it looks like there are more gays trying to force there view onto religion. People saying the church needs to wake up etc etc.

At the end of the day mate some things are wrong and some things are right. Just because it's 2015 and a lot of people agree, does not make this very wrong thing right.
Seriously if you think this is a good way to go then you need to give your heads a bloody good wobble.

Legal issues within civil partnership mean that, in Ireland, for them to be classed as constitutionally protected, they needed to either have an entirely new constitutional amendment produced, and passed or simply changed semantically to being a marriage.

The second factor is that under Civil Partnership agreements religeons that wanted to conduct gay ceremonies were precluded by the Civil Partnership act (ironically religious groups who approve of same sex marriage couldn't conduct such ceremonies).

Civil Partnership is not the same as a civil (ie non-religious wedding).

Kermy, for such an intelligent and self aware student of life like yourself, you really shouldn't have that comma inbetween 'hey ho'.

I'm being an arse...I know.

You know exactly what I mean by wrong.
Why do you think being gay is acceptable. Why do you think I should have to accept it. And how the hell do you think I should be questioning my own sexuality just because I have a different opinion on the matter to you. Does embracing homosexuality confirm ones own sexual stance, whatever that may be!?

All because two adults consent to something doesn't mean it's ok.

Does to me, providing that all parties know what they're getting themselves into, its up to them. The idea that its anyone else's business is absurd. Restricting people because they like a different gender is as absurd as restricting people because they like blow jobs or spanking - It achieves nothing but making people miserable, for no good reason

Being gay is acceptable, because it had absolutely zero impact on me, or society. I don't like UKIP, doesn't mean that being right wing is wrong and should result in otherwise lawful citizens being restricted by state because of so very questionable moral basis.

This thread is possibly the most depressing one I have ever read on HOL.

There is nothing wrong with being gay, if there were it wouldn't have been around for as long as mindkind. If your deity hadn't wished for there to be gay people he/she/it wouldn't have invented them. Or if you are Darwinist, apparently it's good for society to have gay people.

On the other hand there is massive harm from paedophiles and incestuous relationships, the suffering of people living with this is unimaginable for those that have not.

No parallel, stupid stupid suggestion that there is.

And to say that non-reproductive marriage is somehow a lower order is bizarre. I bet lots of people on this site are on second marriages beyond child bearing age, does that make their marriages relatively unimportant?

If people want to marry a same sex partner, I guess that is because they feel strongly. And if they want to do it in Church presumably they are religious. What more is there to know.

Oh and what the hell is feminisation and how can male same sex marriage represent it? That is of course a contradiction in terms.

I don't see the logic behind a yes vote in such a strong catholic country, but if that's what everyone wants then why not.

..Catholics are human like everyone else with exactly the same amount of humans in it ..with particular desires.

Ok, your saying I'm not allowed to have an opinion, or say something is wrong.
Yet you are allowed to have an opinion on me, and say I'm in the wrong.
How does that work??

Because your opinion is that some people should have inferior rights because of your moral stance, where as the counter argument is that those people should have the same rights as anyone else, unless a reasonable grounds can be made to deny people those same rights.

Just a quick point, how many accidental or unplanned babies do Gay couples have? Answer = none. Also because of the difficulty with adopting and other methods, its pretty hard to get a kid without being deemed fit and proper as a gay parent. Yet still I hear people chatting tripe about how the 'traditional family unit is important,' why,?

Also to all of you neanderthals comparing Homosexuality to incest and Paedophiles, you are f**cking morons.

Edited by coulsdoneagle (24 May 2015 1.37pm)

Haha, sticking you willy into another mans bum hole will not actually make a baby. Neither will rubbing two fannies together. Simple as that.
Homosexuality, incest, and peadophilia are all wrong. Yet we are at a point now (apparently) where gays are screaming about there "rights" so much, that you are trying to act like it's normal. It's not. Neither is fcuking your sister, or a child, yet do the people who want to do those things not have "rights" too. How long until were being forced to accept that too.
It's bullsh!t.

That's a good thing right, planned parenthood and adoption of all those unwanted babies that 'gods' way produces?

Presumably contraception, oral sex, handjobs, bdsm, mutual masturbation, sterility, vesectimies, hysterectomies and so on and so forth are all wrong (as they prevent the sacred miracle of getting knocked up).

Let's not let a missing hyphen and unnecessary comma divide us.

And just to reiterate, use of a colon is fine if that is your bag
