The problem is if he turns out to be class, Chelsea will take him back. If not, well he's not...

I would look at this as an exciting signing were it to be permanent but can't help feel underwhelmed by a loan deal

I had the same thought, but just read that he signed a 5 year contract with chelsea on 31st jan 2012 (no idea if thats been updated) So if he does impress, by the time next season ends he would only have 6 months left on his contract, so potentially we could end up getting him on the cheap, providing of course, its all a success and he wants to join...

People underwhelmed by Bamford clearly have never seen him play. Trust me, after a season with us you'll be gutted he wasn't a permanent signing. This kid has it all.

Have to be honest, I am disappointed with the reaction. We get cabaye now only Messi will do. This kid was championship player of the year at 21! This time last year Austin hadn't set foot in the Orem either. Seriously, people need to get a grip!

Great post laddo, was wondering if Bamford played with Wilf at under 21 level?

No, he's got a contract 'til 30 June 2017:

If he does well (if), he'll be back at Stamford Bridge by Christmas with a brand spanking new, big fat, shiny contract shoved under his nose. You don't seriously think Chelsea are that daft do you?

It was all just IFs, you never know, even with a good season behind him he would probably still be behind the current 3 they have got... stranger things have happened... but your probably right

Very exciting if true, I hope it's a permanent as I have feeling in a years time everyone will be after him!

No Chelsea are not daft but neither are we , I would be very suprised if we don't have a right to buy before end of loan

If this was a permanent deal, we have done very well.

If it's a loan, I don't see a whole lot of benefit if we're planning to bring in another striker alongside him. He either won't get the game time to settle, or if he does get the game time, settles and plays well, we don't get him back and we'll see Campbell and Gayle rot on the sidelines.

At 21, I think he's already missed his chance with Chelsea (Lukaku is still only 22 and was way, way ahead of Bamford though the fee reflected that), so hopefully it will be a permanent with add ons if he does well.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds

Chelsea would need their bumps felt to let a player that, even the most cynical would agree, had a very successful loan spell last season. Next stage is to let a lesser PL team see if can do the same at this level. If he can, then we've done the hard work and they reap the benefit. There's no way, after last season, they'd let him go on a permanent at this stage; we will just be a cog in his development process.

Is Bamford a target man? I didn't think he had much physical presence myself...and only on loan to potentially then be preferred to Dwight Gayle who has proved he can score PL goals, then to return to Chelsea should he prove successful? No thanks.

He's actually stronger and better at holding the ball up than people realise. Certainly more capable of playing the lone striker than Gayle is, although I hope he's also kept and Fraizer is the one allowed to leave.

Would be a great signing and I hope it's permanent, his value is only likely to increase in a year's time.

Lad do please don't tell me what I have or have not seen. He did well in the championship there's a reason why Chelsea want him loaned out he ain't up to premiership football or they would have him in there squad. He'll never be a permenant signing so that's that argument out the window.

It has nothing to do with the Cabeye deal. It's his loan I'm not impressed with. If we are potentially trying to improve our squad to try and get us into Europe we need committed players willing to sign for us not other teams cast offs to see if they are good enough or not.

I'd feel way more excited if this was a permanent deal. He seems like he'll develop into a top 10 quality player, but for this season we'd be getting someone very young who might struggle to make the step up.

Would be happy to secure this loan but I'd still want another striker.
