I was so proud when Mott The Hoople name-checked Croydon in "Saturday Gigs"..............

Every London council will use these buzz words to add a bit of colour to outsiders' perception of a place which would otherwise be viewed as a concrete sh1thole.

Imagine the computer game Sim City where you build as much as possible to increase your population and thus tax revenue, but in the 2015 edition you can add a few pop-up galleries, bars and shops.

It's all nonsense because this sort of cultural boost is organic. Do you think for a second any councillor in Peckham even expected it could be trendy? Now it is, they want to capitalise on the yuppies and build a Waitrose and posh shops.

Self serving cnuts basically.

When people talk about Croydon, are they talking about the town centre or the Borough?

The place has many faults but it's nowhere near as bad as people make out. Has there ever been a town with a worse reputation than Croydon?

Beirut

Beirut has some stunning beaches.

there is a difference in Peckham , there is a concerted effort all round not to go down the homogenised route . foxtons have applied to open on rye lane and their is staunch opposition against it , lets hope it doesn't happen and Peckham keeps its new and old identity intact .

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I haven't been to Croydon Town Centre for many years.

Is "Snifters' wine bar still in existence ? Met many a Palace player in there !
Also used to go to the 'Royal' Chinese restaurant in George Street owned by a nice chap called Mr Man who had an affinity with the club.

I always used to enjoy seeing cast members from "The Bill" strolling around Croydon. Alas, The Bill is no longer on TV. The Bill came off air around the same time as the demise of Croydon. Coincidence? I think not.

It all went downhill when June Ackland got promoted to sergeant.
