Weird, four year contract for someone who barely plays and isn't fancied by the management. Clearly not going to sign anyone decent this window, never mind but I'm happy with the squad and we can save the money for a bigger push in the summer.

Or a tactical move like when Zaha left for Man Utd. Sign them on a longer contract to hike up price in the summer. His contract does end summer 2017 so only 1.5 years left to run.

It is possible it is a ploy by CPFC to push a particular valuation for him. Think Marseille did a similar thing with their striker. Get them to sign a new contract that has a release clause of a fixed amount. Meet the valuation and you can have him.
