The Conservatives are evidently bringing the public sector to its knees so that more privatisation can take place.Sudden injection of capital and TEMPORARY improvements therefore follow so that The Tories can sing the plaudits of the private sector whilst their shareholder-voters are laughing all the way to the bank. Gullible electorate!

Gullible electorate! Nothing more than New Labour did with PFI's though. Temporary improvements, for corporate gain. I'm no fan of the tories, but the country has been let down by successive governments in the pursuit of corporate interests. Elections are like a choice of which dog turd you want to be made to eat.

Cuts invariably impact services far more than service administration. Which is why you end up with a police officer doing more admin work, because the admin clerks have been laid off, and a consultant brought in to train police officers to train officers in paperwork and administrative practices. Its a Kafka farce. Each side generally goes too far, because its committed more to its own popularity, than it pragmatism. You got that right. I would say however is that there is a budget and I find it difficult to believe that austerity measures would be applied if they weren't necessary. It is hardly a vote winner. In 1979, almost 40% of Labour MPs had done manual or clerical work. In 2010, it was only 9%. Over the same period, the number of Labour MPs who were journalists and broadcasters more than doubled, and 11% of all MPs now have a background in PR and marketing (this was close to zero in 1979). Totally agreeing with you. PFIs have proven to be one such cancer of modern-day public sector structuring with schools and hospitals having cost trusts and councils an unprecedented fortune. Totally unimpressed with previous Labour Government alas Cameron & co have been in Government for nearly seven years now. The latter cannot be excused as to how they have transformed the country for the worst with record borrowing continuing and remaining public sector assets increasingly creeping into private hands.
