Picking one statistic out of many is misleading at best and possibly disingenuous. Of course any improvement in one set of export statistics is very welcome but it doesn't, unfortunately,mean that the UK economy is healthy. The balance of trade figures are a much better indication. Those who claim to see a rosy future just over the hill as a consequence of a single export statistic are being wildly optimistic. Much more time and solid evidence is needed. As it flies in the face of every other report and forecast I have heard about I am reserving judgement whilst anticipating a downturn as most seem to expect. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best but expect nothing, will serve us well at this time.

You are right though. There may well have been leavers who thought they would "lose" but as I suggested those in favour of change always are more motivated than those who are not, or don't care either way. We cannot know for sure but with such a close result the doubt is there that if we had a compulsory voting system it could have been different. Which is actually the point I was making.

Yes conceivably but then you’d have complaints about the voters who affected the result without understanding or caring anything about it. Much like now in fact.

We have left just in time. A two speed EU (not Europe) is only allowable within treaties that enable it. The EU is fast moving towards a superstate and I suspect it will look to ban fragmentation......I highly suspect we won't be the only state to leave.

Freedom of movement is an idea I like ad I don't like the way governments can tell people where they can and can't live. There are practical issues with implimenting this idea, in terms of the availability of jobs, infrastructure, and services which have been discussed at length. More recently I thought about the radical post war slum clearance programmes. Governments game in, displaced people, bulldozed communities, and built new utopian estates which ended up unsafe both in terms of crime and construction, many of these have already been pulled down and the idea was condemned. Political social engineering took place without the consent of the people. Having rapid change unsettles the system. If you go to some places outside of London you see streets of Eastern European shops and people who've lived in them all their lives unable to speak to their neighbours. The EU messed up here, because they put ideology before pragmatism. No one in the EU is taking responsibility for this.
