If you look through history, the way in which humanity has developed is through trade, entrepreneurialism and taking risk.

No society has flourished through socialism.

This is not because of the 'right wing media conspiracy', as no such a body existed in the Soviet Union, Pol Pot's Cambodia or in modern day North Korea or Cuba.

It is simply because human nature is defined as survival of the fittest.

Humans need to care for humans. That is why we encourage charity work, community work and mentoring.

However, the type of manufactured bulls*** you stand for is a simple attempt at a power grab that would result in a loss of hard fought for freedoms, a lot of deaths (socialism is good at that and even beating fascism hands down in body count), the ceasing of human development and a punch drunk culture of impassioned inaction.

You can chuck all the 'humanity' digs at me as you wish but I will stand by my view that the likes of Nigel Farage have achieved more for the common man than Jeremy f***ing Corbyn ever will.

Keep living in la la land if you wish to. Right wing heroes like Nigel have won that right for you.

Not true. Kerala has, in relation to other more capitalist states in India, with a Commie/Socialist regime for over 50 years post Independence.

A left-wing success story, don't you know. Now add workers rights across the Western World and other positive advances for those 'at the coal face' because of left-wing activism and it kind of puts your pathological hatred of anything not 'of The Right' in the 'special ward' where it belongs.

never underestimate the credulity of the left.

Now that Trump has said "From this day forward, it's going to be only America First, America First. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families."
"Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength."
"We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and hire American." it
makes Theresa May look blindly and pathetically optimistic if she thinks she's going to get a trade deal with Trump's America that will benefit anyone but the Americans.

Couldn't agree more and we trade with them already without a 'trade deal'.

Looks like China v. America trade war in view of the new president's protectionist statements. Makes brexit look irrelevant.

Well the current Health Secretary has openly expressed the desire to privatise the health service.

So the Brexit government could definitely move towards privatisation. But then ironically by leaving the EU (and the collapse of the US/EU trade deals) we could have made it less inevitable, as being open to privatisation would have effectively been enforced.

Odd.

Certainly there is no shortage of proponents of privatisation in the current Tory party. And Nigel Farage also openly expressed that he was in favour of privatisation (although he then tried to backtrack and claim he never said things he was on record saying).

So those old links (from partisan sources) mean it's DEFINITELY going to happen... Is that the best you can do?

My point was what has it got to do with Brexit??

And Nigel Farage has NO POWER.

There is nothing wrong with privatisation of the NHS, both Germany and France have incredible health care systems, that are privatised, available to all citizens and provide arguably a better system and service than the NHS.

The important factor isn't whether something is run by the state or by private enterprise, but how its regulated, controlled and devised. Indeed, the French and German system, produce better value and service for their citizens, than the NHS and US systems.

The problem of the UK is that we tend towards US style privatisation.

Very good post Jamie.

Partly privatised. The government is still the major fund source for its *pardon the pun* operation. All German citizens are insured with comprehensive coverage paid for by employer and employee, not unlike NI contributions here. The Federal Ministry of Health controls all aspects of state healthcare and profiteering is not allowed with regard to the health of the people.

Something that would be great to have here but wouldn't get off the ground whilst the Right hold sway. Too socially responsible and not enough money to be made.

Interesting to see George Osborne now working part-time for Blackrock. No wonder he was so keen to keep us in the EU for his banker mates. [Link]

Mind you, these pro EU politicians campaigners did the same...

Brown > Pimco
Blair > JPMorgan
Darling > Morgan Stanley
Mandelson > Lazards
Hague > Citi
King > Citi

No I don't think a moderator would stop people continually changing the subject of the thread to inform you of their idealistic opinions of an entirely different subject.
