Way I see it, if your going to have kids knowing about gender, mummies and daddies etc you might as well cover the whole subject, rather than leave out core important elements.

I don't really see what the parents problem was.

I didn't find out about that stuff (either of the straight variety or of the less vanilla variety) until I was 10 and thought "yuck". Probably why I'm such a confused chap aged 34...

To be fair, we found out about periods that day too.

“I do understand that some people are born intersex and they deserve support in coming to terms with their gender but it’s not the same thing. A man who gets his d**k chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.”

I agree with her, which is why transgender and intersex are significant distinctions, as you someone who is neither male, nor female.

Someone who transgenders, or has intersex, is both psychologically, and physiologically, different to the simple gender definitions, because their experiences, psychology and biology are neither typically male or female.

As exampled by people who go from male to woman, but still are sexually into women. Its not a duality where you are one or the other.

That has no place in a primary school. Reading, writing, painting, maths, spelling, sports and games.

If the parent wants to teach them those sort of things, at that age, let them decide. You can be sure it's not in the curriculum for that age group.

I think I was about 8 or 9, and found out because someone my dad was sponsoring in AA was transgender and I think my parents were worried I'd say something very stupid like 'she looks like a man'.

I'd known about gay people for quite some time, because AA and Al-Anon back then had a fair few gay and lesbian members.

Then people should stop having a go at people who don't refer to idiots like Bruce Jenner as she or Caitlyn. You're Bruce and you're a he.

But it should be. Why shouldn't kids learn about it. I'm not saying you have to go into all the details, but it surely better to know about things like gay, lesbianism etc at a young age, than simply have to find out for yourself.

Jesus, back when I was at school, we didn't even cover gay people in Sex Ed. Now statistically there was at least 3 people in my class would would have been 'thinking somewhat differently' in terms of sex.

Kids see and hear, and know things, from their world around them. Introducing them to things that are true is a fundamental part of education.

If your first name was Bruce wouldn't you rather change it to Caitlyn?

I'd go for Steve, Dave or John before Caitlyn was on the radar if I'm honest.

At the age of 4 they're just about old enough to play 'shops' so this degree of minutae is a bit like asking the kid who took the role of shopkeeper to submit his Corporation Tax.

Disagree, you are who you are, not what other people say you are. Just making people confirm to a norm that doesn't exist, doesn't help anyone - especially the person who is different, and being constrained in to other peoples perception of what is right and wrong.

In reality, we should probably stop trying to shoe horn ourselves in to a narrow a definition as we can find and embrace what makes us different, rather than reject it.
