I was thinking about this recently, and I doubt we'll ever get even to a 40,000 capacity. The current main stand plans would take capacity of that one area from 5/6k to 13/14k, and the overall capacity to 34,000. However, the Arthur already holds nearly 10,000, so even if we built a stand there as big as the proposed new main stand, we'd only be increasing capacity by about 4000 in that one stand, giving us a total capacity of 38000, with three sides of the ground fully redeveloped into tall two or three tier structures. That only leaves the Whitehorse, and the most I could ever imagine there is sticking a fairly small upper tier above the executive boxes. That would be hugely complex, probably not a particularly likely or viable idea at all, and would likely only take us up to about 40,000 if we ever could do it. All in all I wouldn't expect us to be aiming for a 50,000 stadium at any stage, unless the club can pull the mother of all rabbits out of the hat.

wont be many then. I think the plan is to increase the WH stand similar to the one at Wolves. i.e. new seating and extending upwards.

As long as people get good compo i see no problems that can not be overcome.

The details for the new main stand all show the executive boxes at the WH stand remaining in place. In fact there is a new entrance area to those boxes proposed, so no obvious plans to scrap them.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave The Planning application goes before the Croydon Council Planning Committee on Thursday evening next week (19th April), and the Officers recommended decision to Committee is to Grant Permission There is also a further application before the committee the same evening, also from CPFC (but at the very early 'pre-app' stage) to build 9 homes (mostly 4 bed townhouses with roof gardens)immediately behind the Holmesdale Stand. The low level buildings at the back of the Holmesdale Stand (programme room and turnstile blocks) would be demolished here. If approved, this would satisfy the requirement to replace the 6 houses in Wooderson Close (which would have to be demolished for the Main Stand to be built). Initial feedback on this proposal is positive

There is a drawing in the design and access statement (submitted with the application) which I don't know if they meant to show or not. It shows in ghostly feint lines, an upper tier of seats (with stairwells) where the Whitehorse Boxes currently are. Perhaps that is future thinking? Obviously, this isn't part of the current application, but perhaps it is a nod to what the club and its architects have in mind? see \/ \/

True. I would remind Croydon council that Charlton fans even fielded candidates at the local election and held the balance of power temporarily on Greenwich council. They agreed to stand down in return for the council agreeing to let them back to the valley. With the local elections due in May we should start a campaign now. Ask the local council candidates from the major parties doe they support the planning application. If yes then palace fans will support them. If no then palace fans will support the alternate candidates. Lets make this an election issue after all this is supposed to be a local election. If I remember rightly from watching the pre-planning meeting there were two council members who declared an interest as Palace fans so we should be able to count on them. The chair I think said he was a Norwich fan so we'd best not poach any of their players before the decision unless of course he wants us to in order to bring some money into Norwich FC and then we can crowd fund it

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I really dont see the point of this and it strikes me that this is all about SP Why polish a turd. that money should be used towards building a new ground even if it means it sits there or put into other things to gain interest. I don't see how anything else can really be done with other stands theirs no extra land for those and as has been shown transport is a big issue this cant really be fixed in the current location.
