19,000 but a good point. However, Chelsea had a fairly recent history just before then from 1960 to late 1970's of regularly attracting 40,000s, 50,000s and even some 60,000's. That coupled with league and cup success in the 90's and the buying of world class players, being on the tube and proper redevelopment, then it wasn't going to be a giant leap for them to get back to those attendance days.

I wish Palace had that potential. They haven't. We could be a successful club a la Wolfsburg and Villareal if we don't overreach ourselves by unrealistic ambition by those who don't take the history of the club into account and let envy of others cloud their judgement.

Have you been up to Croydon of late Kermit? The population of the place is increasing more rapidly than ever.

Give them premier league football on their doorstep and an easier way to purchase tickets and they'll swell the numbers.

We don't sell more at the moment as it's too hard to simply be able to pick a game for a casual supporter. Membership plus a second ticket for certain fixtures will never bring drifting trade in.

I have Stu. Still busy as I remember. You could be right but it will take a long time if ever for Palace to evolve to be a club where they can rely on 35,000 home regulars.

I just hate the idea of another big half-empty stadium with a dead atmosphere and for what? Ambition? That's not ambition that's bad planning.

32,000. That's what we need.

Our club has massive potential and staying in the premier league we could easily sell over 35k, okay most would be casual and day trippers but do you think the owners care, it's easy to pull up figures on tickets we haven't sold but we only have 2k go on general sale for members only, make them cheap enough and take ticket restrictions away and people will come. West ham have hardly ever played out the top league and historically don't have a massive average attendance and look at them next year. People will come for premier league football.

Croydon - the Borough - is the 8th Largest populated place in Britain and London's 2nd largest borough - it is growing. Liverpool has a population of 467000 people - we have 342000.

Our catchment area is huge - a better stadium should/would get filled.

For a club that had never been in the 2nd tier of English Football for its first 56 odd years and that we have only been in 3rd tier since then for 3 seasons says that our growth (if you like) is real and that our growth is linked to the growth of the South in general.

Croydon's regeneration is something that we should be part of, involved in and as such become the leading thing in and about Croydon - we do have that ability I am sure."

It's the largest London borough by population and is growing at almost 8-9% p.a.

It's self defeating to spend money developing only to reach capacity again straight away. Even if only 5 games per year sell out for now, it'll be worth it, and being able to ease ticket restrictions for less glamorous games will see more floating punters. We all know that it's the one offs that can turn in to lifelong fans and at the moment we've got no room for them. Or have too many obstacles in their way at least.

That's a useless estimate by Croydon Council. The 2011 census show 363,000 residents.

As frustrating it is for us fans, just think how bad it must be for parish and co, they will be dying to capitalise on this position and try to transform the club and take us to the next level. There should not be this much red tape, football is probably about the best thing now days that can bring communities together, it's a shame the powers that be don't seem to grasp or care for this reason.

I think that people are missing the fact that we wouldnt suddenly have a 40k stadium...far from it. It'll be done in increments as each stand is built...26k - 30k then 30k to 32k and 32k to 40k (all clearly aproximations).

It'd take at least 4 years to do so and provided we remain in the Prem isnt insurmountable.

The latter point being the real key to progress...

I do find it amusing how people talk about increasing the fan base so much, yet 'plastics' 'tourists' or anyone who wasn't there during the 'bad old days' are given so much grief on this site....

Not really, from a selfish point of view id be just as happy supporting Palace down the local park with 200 die hard fans. Think most people just know from a buisness point of view and for the club to reach its potential and be as successful as it can be we would need the causuals/day trippers.

I think in the past architects designed big grounds with the sole idea of what they would be like packed to the rafters. Surely now someone could come up with a design that would allow large areas of the ground to be effectively partitioned so as not to detract from the atmosphere. I always thought that season ticket holders should fill the lower stands and causal purchases the upper, then for lower gate games we could block off the upper tiers with advertising hoardings or something.

Probably some of the hatred of "plastics" (although not a term I use very often due to my own inability to go to many games each season) comes from them using up seats in the ground when tickets are currently in such high demand. With a bigger stadium tickets wouldn't be so hard to come by and therefore posters on here may ease off the "plastics" a little.
