Machete attack in Germany

Germany is facing a massive demographic problem in the next 20-30 years. The birth rate is around 1.4, compared to 1.9 in the UK and 2.0 in France. By 2050, there will be around one pensioner for every two working adults. And we have a generous social security system over here. That is, quite simply, unsustainable. Germany has also done a reasonable* job of integrating foreigners in the past. Some number crunchers basically came up with a formula that said we need young people to come here, get trained and become a productive workforce. Merkel saw the refugee crisis as an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I attended a lecture a few years ago where the guy said that purely for demographic reasons they will have to let Egypt and Turkey into the EU. Reasonably well-educated, English-speaking, right age groups. Islam is a bit of a fly in the ointment, I grant you, but global economics will stamp on that in the end. Incidentally, Germany has a spate of nutjob fringe loner types going round attacking people. The various recent attacks have at least as much to do with anti-depressants and video games as they do with radical Islam. *it certainly has its problems with 'multiculturalism', but nothing like the Banlieues of Paris or the riots in Bradford, Burnley or Oldham.
...we must expand...get more pupils...so that the knowledge will spread... |

Was that during the debate in which Germany, or the majority, decided the country was pro immigration? It was a few years ago wasn't it? What's causing the fall in birth rate in Germany? Isn't it children being too costly in the case of Italy? France have very generous benefits for parents.

Germany is on the whole very tolerant towards migrants. You have a lot of intolerant types - from the neo-nazis in the former East Germany (where there is a lot of unemployment) to the 'old school' Nazis in the conservative areas of Bavaria. I think the birth rate is just a lifestyle thing. Middle-class German parents are ridiculously ambitious when it comes to their offspring, enrolling them in multi-lingual kindergartens with music lessons when they are just two years old and so on. It's very expensive to raise kids.

The answer is to insensitive people to have larger families. But no, the government would rather save money and import people ready grow and educated.

I don't think you can blame the government for people having less children, can you? They certainly dish out enough benefits for people who do. And it increases the more you have. I know one bloke who had nine kids and earnt more from them than the MD of his company. But then he had to get a bus drivers' license in order to drive them anywhere. Anyway, larger families might well be the answer but in a civilised society you can hardly go round forcing people to procreate, can you?

Economically it makes more sense, you don't have to spend 16-20 years educating them, plus there is a reasonable chance they'll f**k off back to their home country, before they get too old and represent a saving in health care costs. The alternatives, such as raising taxation don't sell well to the public.

Good for the individual yes but not so good for the future Western society as it turns out. We might have just surrender all we have achieved in the last century to barbarism for the sake of a few more holidays, a new car and a couple of nights out a week.
