Fair enough; I believe everyone should be checked at the borders. Too many times I have just walked through and not seen a soul. Recently, and at regional airports even more so.

The last thing we need is more religious nutcases coming here, there are way too many already.
A strict profile of any person wishing to come here is needed to ascertain personality and value to our economy.
No more excuses. This is the most important decision we need to make for the future of Britain. We cannot let Europe or anyone else tell us who we must allow here for any reason.

We could simply take our agreed quota by selecting all the Christian Syrians from the camps - where they are still suffering persecution at the hands of Muslims. They would definitely fit better into the ethos of this country and be less trouble.....

Or we could just say we have enough and get rid of any silly quota. Let Japan take more.

Here's a thought.

how about the neighbouring rich as fcuk Arab countries take some on ?

Or the British Army has just left Camp Bastion one and two I'm pretty sure they could with a bit of a lick of paint and some groundwork, be brought up to speed and house thousands of immigrants. Much cheeper in the long run, safer, clean water medical facilities, proper accommodation and certainly closer.

As it was a UN enclave for the Op Herrick it is easily defended (given the right staff etc etc) but still I'm sure you catch my drift.

Because of their terrible human rights records and reputation for persecuting minority Muslim groups.

Syria was largely a secular country, and there are a lot of secular Muslims and progressive Muslims there.

We have to accept a responsibility for refugees and asylum, failure to do so, will just lend justification to other countries doing the same, and ultimately creating humanitarian crisis in neighbouring countries that will escalate the situation, and result in knock on effects in countries neighbouring those countries.

Yes but why, How many Arab(and neighbouring) countries do you think would take in British "asylum seekers" if the roles where reversed ?

Not worried about them. It's the loons we need to avoid.

Our first duty is to British citizens.

Well, if we're talking about a hypothetically oppressive Britain that some how had a civil war or was dominated by a murderous regime, there is no reason to not assume that the countries you speak of wouldn't have become liberal democracies.

The point of offering humanitarian aid and refuge from oppression, is that its humanitarian. It doesn't matter whether an oppressive regime would do the same from British Citizens, because the action of asylum is aimed at people, not the states creating refugees.

Something that no British Government seems to agree with sadly. I quite agree, we should be avoiding Islamists, extremists etc. The reality is we have a long history of offering refugee to those kinds of people through the 90s because it suits our foreign ambition in the middle east (effectively the UK was supporting and offering safe haven to all manner of individuals who were representative of Islamist movements in the middle east - as we saw them as an option for the future of that region).

That's why we offered certain people we couldn't deport, refugee status in the first place. We wanted Jordan 'overthrown' for example.

In my scenario no where does it state the Arab world have suddenly become humanist liberals. That my dear old friend was avoidance in all its wonderful (if not a little obvious) glory.

Sadly, I believe that to be highly likely.

We are being used as pawns in the game. A certain amount of collateral damage can be excused away.
