Connor's a great player but he never seems to be in the right place when the ball comes over. Could be great chance for him to learn from Benteke the master.

On the plus side, the wages for sitting on the bench are pretty good. He'll get his chance, and now he has an incentive to prove himself.

Problem is last season he couldn't quite link up the play and get into the box like Benetke - He'll benefit from training with a world class player.

Anyone who saw him play at Southampton the other week are more likely to say, very poor Wickham, than poor Wickham.

Its not tough on Wickham, he had his chance last season as the main striker.
He is not now due to Bentekes arrival, who is scoring goals, Wickham doesn't. He needs to improve and fight for a place.

.....and stay off the treatment table!

Bring back Brolin

Wickham is surely in APs plans its just a stronger squad than before.

His hold-up play is a big plus to his striker role.

I think the reason for more crosses is bentekes positional awareness is so much better then wickhams, the wingers know he'll be there or there abouts, and he literally wins everything. Alot of last season we would cross a ball but have no one in the box to get on the end of it, i guess thats the difference between a 9m striker and 30m striker. With remy back soon i cant really see connor getting a look in.

I don't have the stats to back this up, but my impression is that Benteke inspires the full backs to make runs, because they feel something might happen. I think this used to be the case when Murray was playing. I am not suggesting that Murray was the same class as Benteke, just that the team knew where he was likely to be and were prepared to get forward and risk being caught out of position because they felt something good might happen. That attitude seems to be back, and the team is gelling.

He is very good average bad and rubbish. He had the chance in the cup game and he was not good. Next chance he gets he has to be very good or the bench place will be under threat as well.

Benteke has a track record of scoring goals, hence a £30m valuation.

Wickham doesn't, and we paid something like £9m for him.

I think Wickham could do a job in the current team if Benteke wasn't available, but he doesn't look capable of goalscoring on a regular basis.

Tough on him ? I don't think so. He needs to show much more desire if he's ever going to fulfil his potential.

Fair assessment. What is particularly noticeable is how much better Beneteke's movement is. Being in the right place and goalscoring on a regular basis isn't luck.

..injuries, he had that great spell didn't he when he scored four, was it West Brom and Sunderland...I think so, but injuries keep on preventing him.
He definitely has it in him.

It's a long season. Wickham will get his chance.

Hope not . Would prefer Remy, all I see in Wickham is a headless chicken who scores rarely.
