Yep. I'm in the 'Got rid of FDB too early' camp. Yes, he revolted rather than evolved, but still, there were small signs that things were starting to turn round.

but that's the Price of changing the style - its riskier, but you have to push through the bad times. Maybe FDB was not the right man for the job, maybe he was that sh*t. we'll never really know.. SP made the choice to employ him, but didn't have the belief to stick with his choice and to give him time to prove his methods. Not apportioning blame to SP for that, but you have to expect this type of thing when attempting what FDB was attempting. He tried to change things too quickly, so the immediate effect was to lose a lot! Whose to say over the course of the season he couldn't fix it?

I think FDB is an extreme example. There are plenty of other managers we can turn to to change the style of play, without being quite as drastic.

De Boer was a terrible fit for us. Also he’s made a poor start to the Netherlands managerial career. Seems to have an epic ego which is ok considering his playing career or Ajax managerial time. However it doesn’t seem to do him much good outside of the Ajax bubble.

When Palace fans say, “we have no chance of getting a manager like Santo or Bielsa”, you have to look at the fact that both of them were taken on by Championship Clubs before they made it to the PL, so why not? At some point, the respective Boards at both Wolves and Leeds have had the foresight to look for a manager that was going to take them forwards. Our fans appear to think this is impossible and even if it was possible then they would not come to Palace.

Well that is rubbish in my opinion. I cannot name managers with their obvious talents because I don’t follow world football however you would imagine those at the top of the game will know who they are and where they are plying their trade. Whether they have the balls to bring them in is a different matter.

So to all those saying we can’t have a new manager because we can’t think of a decent replacement you already know it is not down to us to find a replacement, it is down to the club and if they want to progress then they need to put a bit more effort into searching for someone. Just dragging a recently failed manager or a younger clone of Roy in is not the answer to our future.

There is no vacancy at present and unlikely to be for the foreseeable future.

When the post becomes available, I would have no qualms with Bielsa being handed the reigns. The football would certainly be different to some of the dross that is being served up at present and has been for a while!

FDB went to Atlanta in MLS after Palace and was not successful there either. And that was a team that had won the MLS championship the year before (2018 ). Maybe it's the Ajax thing or maybe he's just not that good.

He went to Leipzig ages ago did he not? I was touting him long ago but the ship has sailed. He's done brilliantly at Leipzig.

Leeds and Wolves have wealthy foreign owners with an ambition and vision for their club and, in Wolves case, a super agent involved with the ownership.

We on the other hand have a fragmented ownership, an ageing squad assembled expensively on long contracts three to five years ago, an ex player / manager in charge of recruitment, net spend of about two quid in the last three years and a reputation for being complete piss artists in the transfer window.

Bielsa and Santo my arse.

Agreed - why would either of them quit jobs at bigger clubs to come to us? What nonsense.

You and Rachid have both entirely missed the point or taken it too literally . I am not saying let’s get Bielsa or Santo, I am saying someone with their credentials. They didn’t just appear from nowhere and both were initially willing to manage a level down.

Now just because I can’t think of someone doesn’t mean they are not out there and I don’t agree that coming to us is a far fetched dream. As people keep telling me, we are now an established PL team, admittedly unattractive to watch and tarred by the Royball approach, however nonetheless established and there is no reason why a decent manager wouldn’t see us as a decent proposition.
