I think a big thing in this debate is inconsistency of selection all along the back four + keeper. So far this season, I think we've fielded 13 different combinations of back four and keeper. Hull - Ledley and McArthur How the team is supposed to build any kind of understanding in these circumstances is beyond me. Yes, we've been let down by individual mistakes, but I think these mistakes tend to happen when people aren't playing in a system they are comfortable with. Players are having to worry about other players and the shape of the defence instead of just getting on with their job. That's what leads to moments of panic or people getting caught in two minds.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

Well said. Our best back four (or anyone else's) isn't necessarily the best four defenders you have. Knowing who you're playing alongside, where they'll be, who will cover if you step up/out etc is as critical as the tactics/organisation you're playing to.

I get your point but this situation isn't exclusive to Palace. Injuries, squad rotation and the transfer market see that all clubs shuffle playing personnel the world over. I'm certainly not buying this as an excuse.

As for the goal, it was a very well taken shot placed right into the top corner. Nothing any goal keeper could have done about it. Wish our strikers could hit it like that to be honest.
