I agree with you on the 4-4-2 but please explain our we can play 4-4-3 unless we play without a keeper, if we can get away with it i'm up for it maybe we can win a game or two with 12.

Apologies, 4-3-3 (just a typo).

How about these players instead of Jenkinson?

van der Wiel- lost his place in Fenerbahce after being brought in from PSg on a free transfer. The Turkish manager is insane preferring the Turkish Ozbayrakli there, I rate van der Wiel among the best 5 right defenders in Europe. He was absolutely spectacular for PSG and Ajax. A little underwhelming for the national team, but still....

Figueiras- was very appreciated in Sevilla, but left because he wanted to play and Mariano (who is equally amazing) was playing ahead of him. He is now with Olympiakos where he is the starting right back and doing great (1 goal and 3 assists in the league), but the Greeks couldn't refuse an offer of around 2,5-3 million from a Premier League team if it wanted him. That's much less than what Jenkinson would cost and I dare say for more quality

Ricardo Esgaio- this guy would be very cheap, Sporting would sell him for 1-2 million. He has been 3rd choice so far, promoted to second choice now that the old J. Perreira has left. He's still young. I know him since he was one of the best right midfielders for Sporting B. Didn't manage to get into the first team as a midfielder because there was tremendous competition, but was further trained as a right back and got into the Portugal U20 and U21 team as such. Watched him in the U21 Euro 2 years ago and he was amazing for Portugal. Him and Raphael Guerreiro really pushed the game up for the Portuguese. Raphael Guerreiro is in Dortmund with Borussia, someone should take this guy too. Now is the time, he has had 2-3 years to settle as a right back, he learnt what was necessary defensively.

Smolnikov- now Zenit usually sells for very big numbers, but lately they have had some financial trouble and have only brought in low cost players. They brought in another Russian right back and the starting one this half of season had been Anyukov. I'm not very sure how the manager Lucescu rates Smolnikov because he was also injured, but if he has recovered and is not in the manager's plans he should be picked up by a good side fast. He was one of the best right backs in the Champions League and in European football in the past 5 years.

Yedlin- now if you have some cash to splash this is your player. He has played great every time I watched him. Could have gotten him for 4-5 million in the summer. Now I think he'd cost 7-8 million. Still, Benitez rates Anita higher and mostly plays him as right back, but Yedlin has 5 assists and 1 goal in the Championship this season. And he's a right back!! Him and van Aanholt saved Sunderland's ass last season, together with Borini and Defore. This season Sunderland suffers tremendously without him

In our current position I imagine that Sam wants players that he knows and trusts and who have Premiership experience - any other targets can wait till the end of the season.

As for the Topic of 3-5-2 I don't think we will be using that system in every game. That system suited against Everton purely down to the players available but depending on who we manage to buy I'll bet that Sam varies it in future games depending on the opposition and who we have available.
