I do believe that there is a perception of what British Values are. My point was that many, if not all of the values would resonate with people around the world. Or are you suggesting we possess particular values exclusively?

I love the way you attribute a thought to me, then go on to slag my position off based on your perception of what my position may or may not be. Good work.

I just thought your post seemed very contradictory and you've confused whatever point you're trying to make.

"So much for British values" implied an action that contravened these values, but you then go onto say these values don't actually exist.

I'm sure everyone has got an opinion on British values but also I'm sure most would agree that faciliting uncontrolled and limitless immigration wouldnt be one of them, so again, I'm not really sure what your point is here.

It is easy to predict what your position will be on most political issues.

Their constituent, whether they voted for them or not.

Precisely I am glad you agree, people are being paid to much in benefits. So there is no incentive to improve themselves and work for a living.
The old British values of supporting your family has been passed on to someone else to do.

Actually benefits aren't too high, the minimum wage is too low.

Either you believe in them or you don't. Or did you mean "so much for world values"? :-/

There are a series of competing discourses about what are and are not British values, constructed through social interactions, that are made and remade on a continual basis.

In that case they would have to abstain on every vote as they couldn't represent the views of all their constituents at the same time.

So why do they have surgeries and constituent engagement - Obviously, they cannot represent or claim to know each and every individuals view. However they are supposed to represent constituent views and issues as well as party policy and manifesto pledges, including their own points of view and policy.

In my experience, there are MPs who are good at this, and then there are career politicians who really work to the party line, and basically only represent those who agree with them.

Indeed.

There are also very few, if any, "values" that are exclusive to Great Britain, or indeed any other nation. That does not mean there aren't a set of values that can be described as what being British stands for, although those on the left who who find anything remotely positive about our country distasteful and embarrassing, would of course disagree.

Well yes, and no. There are ideas about what British values are, but there isn't a real consensus. For example, you probably have a very different idea of British Values than I do, but neither are actually true. They're just ideas.

We establish ourselves, in line with discourses to which we subscribe, and negate others without engagement, by dismissal, such as you did in your paragraph with the idea of left wing criticism of what you may consider British values.

Truth generally lies between the idealology and the critical analysis of the ideal (if it can be said to exist at all).

Yeah, but generally speaking, most left-wing ideas are tosh.
