Could somebody explain a simple question.

As we are sending millions in aid to these countries, why are we then also taking their people in as refugees?

Because Aid is an incentive to get those countries to do business with us.

Timukawakido wants a water treatment plant. The UK gives it 10m in aid for water treatment facilities in the country, and in return, Thames Water UK gets a contract, to build it, run it and maintain it for 15-20 years, which in turn generates around 1-2bn for Thames Water.

No one gets anything for free in Capitalism, there is always strings attached.

I know this is very much tongue in cheek but it's depressing how people that think like this are now in positions of power.

Because they need food, water, medical supplies, transport and assistance to help them in places that have been destroyed or taken over.

And then they need a safe place to live.

You're welcome.

I'd also query your figures as according to migration watch, the net migration figure into the U.K. For the year to June 2016 is 330,000.

Your general attitude suggests that you would benefit greatly from doing so.

I must have misunderstood all this. But isn't this all about the Dub's agreement, whereby we take child refugees from Europe? Where they already have safety from the constant tyranny of oppressors/war.

Nothing to do with taking in genuine refugees directly from war-torn/oppressive countries.

I'm getting on a bit, so maybe I have it all wrong.

I'm glad our government is showing a bit of backbone and we've got the channel as some kind of buffer zone from the madness going on in Europe.

'Madness going on in Europe'? The only 'madness' I've seen is that of British citizens being hoodwinked and lied to simply to get votes. I've continually lived in several EU countries over the last 25 years and never seen any 'madness' that you seem so convinced about. What I do see when I visit the UK are many bitter and twisted British people who can't seem to accept that others (non British) doing a generally better job at living and working in the UK than themselves. Life in most EU countries has been and is going on just fine contrary to what you read in much of the British media. The UK has been and is doing a very good job on itself at insuring in falls behind most EU countries in terms of quality of life and a future for its younger generations. If it stopped continually pointing fingers at others and finally admitted it has got a lot wrong in its society and long term economy through its own doings, it could start to move forward again. However, with recent events that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime in the short to mid-term time frame.
