Give teams one appeal per match that is maintained/rolled over if upheld or a player gets booked if it's not upheld (and teams lose any right to subsequent appeeals). Either side has the right to appeal in any situation but an incorrect appeal=booking. Would take a lot of sting out of the fans too, who frequently shout for stuff just to pressure refs.

Just don't be too hasty. I'm sure that the referees defender in chief, Willo, will give us a perfectly plausible reason why this was not the fault of the referee but was, in fact, down to too many players being in the box and out of position, thereby confirming that they also make errors. The reality, of course, is that some simply aren't good enough. Look at the lack of a Red for Ibrahamivic and Mings in the Man Utd v Bournemoufh game. Bloody awful. Madleys reward for his terrible failed penalty award decision against us was to referee a high profile Arsenal v Liverpool game. If you reward abject failure rather than punish it then there's nothing for the refs to fear and you get substandard results - which is what we are seeing. All of these decisions should receive the equivalent of retrospective 'straight reds' for the ref. An instant 3 match ban. A couple of those in a season should see relegation back down the refs pyramid. They should get yellow equivalents as well - so a totting up process.

You say "Out of position" - at the end of the day the referee cannot be everywhere for heaven's sake ! As for "Confirming errors", I have always asserted that referees err from time to time - goodness me, they cannot be expected to be right 100% of the time !!!! As for the 'Handball' incident, I haven't had a chance to view it so cannot comment but might do if I do see it.

What's worrying is that in every one of the incidents cited the ref was NOT out of position.

Rondon's dive was as good as the one by Snodgrass. Snodgrass said afterwards he dived because he thought he was going to be tackled, which could have been true. Maybe Rondon knew about that excuse and thought he would give it a go. Why he wasn't booked is a mystery, especially in light of the decisions against Jimmy Mac and against Wilf (by Willo's hero Cluttenfunk). Edited by peterg (05 Mar 2017 10.09am)

Edited by peterg (05 Mar 2017 10.09am) The Ref knew Rondon dived, the reaction of the Palace players would have further reinforced that. He also knows that simulation is unsporting behaviour and, therefore, a yellow card offence under the laws of the game.
