I have no problem with high taxes, when the return is good and effective services and social functionality. What I do object to is piss poor public services, high taxes and governments spending that's through the roof with no improvement to show.

I think that's taking it a bit far. The state if its taking taxation from the people, has an obligation / duty to use that revenue for social projects that benefit as many of those tax payers as possible.

A good health service negates the need for private health insurance, a good school system should negate the need for private education, a structured and functional welfare state should serve to reduce the impact of poverty and so on.

Even if these are outsourced to third parties by the state as seen in say German and French health care (an excellent example of how privatisation can be used to generate profit for companies and still benefit the public).

The US situation with Education, Welfare, Housing and Health care represents massively irresponsible spending by the state, and irresponsible tax cuts - Creating an effective series of third worlds within America.

Pretty true of most companies as well. The only difference is they're held far more accountable. My experience of working with Government and Private Sector technology provision, is that private sector provision succeeds usually by overcharging the state for its services, or by under providing on their projects and goal.
