All looks really simple with such a "Freeze frame".

You try to run the line when at pace a player is stepping out and another is running through and you will realise what a difficult job it is.

And I repeat, TV has recently shown some excellent shots of some really 'Tight' calls being made correctly.

After the pass was given, I watched the linesman. He ran about 7 steps before flagging, and didn't retreat those 7 steps. In my mind, that makes him about 7 steps out of position when he made the decision.

Of course it's difficult when it's fast moving, but it's more difficult when you're out of position which he was.

Willo, that picture is damning. Really damning.

This was an important fixture in one of the top professional leagues in the world. Losing it, as you have been constantly pointing out, could have serious consequences.

A professional linesman merely needs to be level, or nearly level, with the back four line. It's no surprise that tight calls are made correctly when the linesman is in the right place because it's then easy to see. If he is out of position on the other hand it is impossible to tell.

It isn't f***ing rocket science.

Finally people are blaming the correct incompetent officials. The linesmen and not the ref. The refs are not bent and there are no conspiracies being orchestrated however refs are only human and many things will influence their opinion. Continually falling to the ground and whining will do a player no favours. The smart player will put an arm around the ref, have a chat and get him on his side.

You say "Out of position".

The way the game is so fast with the constant moving up and down of the back line and the ball moving at speed, sometimes you would need to be 'Usain Bolt' to be precisely in line all of the time.I can assure you it is a very difficult job and thankfully TV has shown how many excellent 'Tight' calls are made.Of course Assistants will get it wrong from time to time but generally at this level they do a darned good job.

You can assure me of nothing because you know f*** all about it. You're just making this stuff up because, inexplicably, you'd rather defend ridiculous and downright outrageous officials than stick up for your own team when it has clearly and obviously be wronged. Every single time anything like this happens you come on here making up ludicrous excuses for the most appalling cockups that cost us. Every single time without fail.

At this level we expect a reasonable standard of competence and fairness from our officials and if the linesman has to run about in order to do what quite frankly is the most basic and essential thing he has to do then he has to run about. Whether their job is more or less "hard" has no bearing on our entitlement as fans to see our matches arbitrated properly.

You are quite clearly nothing but an FA sockpuppet. Frankly as a lifelong Palace fan I find your constant defence of people who, whether deliberately or merely negligently, hurt our team and ruin our sport really quite offensive. I really think you would rather see us relegated than be shown to be wrong. Even if you didn't claim to be a fan yourself, I would find your comments insensitive and inappropriate but the fact that you do it from the position of supposedly supporting Palace is IMHO an insult to the red and blue.

Wild accusations without any foundation whatsoever and totally inaccurate to boot.
Rhetorical grandstanding taking the place of reasoned debate.

I'll have you know that I qualified as a referee have been in the middle and on the sidelines, besides I have lost count of the number of times I have spoken to officials about the task in hand - done so only recently.
As such I do have an insight into the complexities involved !

I shall treat the rest of your ridiculous diatribe with the contempt it darned well deserves.

Convicted by your own evidence.

Perhaps you should try talking to some Palace fans about it sometime - and listening instead of drowning them out with FA propaganda.

More rhetorical grandstanding.
You are rather partial to it on HOL.

I have nothing to do with the FA at all so I'm not following any 'Party line'.
All I ever do is try to understand situations from the officials perspective.
Sometimes they get it wrong, most times they are right.
Sometimes decisions have gone in our favour, sometimes they haven't but overall the officials in the PL do a very good job.

For what it's worth I was right behind the linesman in block V of the Arthur, row 4. What was truly awful was that the lino's flag stayed down until Wilf was through and the ref and several of the players stared at the lino. Who then put his flag up, clearly thinking "Oh fcuk I'd better do something". The sooner video technology is made to work the better because this is getting ridiculous. Burnley should have been down to ten there and then.

Stop digging, Willo.

What you never try to do is understand situations from our perspective. Never once have I seen an ounce of empathy with how we feel when a decision like that is given, or our sense that it happens far too often. All you ever do is spout laughably feeble defences of indefensible officiating performances right in the faces of people who are indignant, angry and downright hurt because of them.

F***ing insensitive.

I admit I never saw this sequence of events.

What I will say is that assistants wait until the player in an offside position becomes 'Active' by playing the ball or going for it so maybe he was just waiting for this to happen - I don't know for sure but this is a possibility.

Regards technology, do you really want the game to be stopped to analyse every such 'Offside' type decision ? All very well to call for technology but it's application is a subject of major debate. We have to get the major decisions right without interrupting the flow and very essence of the game.

I really don't see myself as being "Insensitive".

All I ever try and do is try to understand why decisions were/were not given and come on here to give my 'Take' on it given that I used to officate and talk to a number of officials.

Of course I disagree with many on here about individual decisions but this is a forum for debate and discussion where various viewpoints add to it's value.

As I say, sometimes the officials get it wrong but overall they do a darned good job in the circumstances.
If my message was that the officials are right 100% of the time then rightly I would be the subject of intense ridicule. They don't and nor should we expect them to.
