De Boer 'offered Palace job'
Posted at
14:38
Former Ajax boss Frank de Boer has today been offered the manager's job at Crystal Palace, according to reports in the Netherlands.

De Boer, 47, masterminded four Dutch League titles during six years in charge of Ajax, while Inter Milan sacked the former Barcelona player after just 85 days in charge of the Italian club last November.

Philipp is represented at board meetings by his manager (who is also Markus Weinzierl's manager, used to manage Owen Hargreaves and was captain of Bayern Munich's reserves) a guy called Roman Grill.

In contrast to me (and most of the people on here, if they're honest!) he actually knows a LOT about football.

(He really does; it's genuinely interesting to hear someonw who works professionally in football talk about the game, it makes the conversations I have in the pub with my mates seem childishly naive.)

Anyway, we had a board meeting today and he was there and in his considered opinion, appointing Frank de Boer will be a disaster.

I fear the worst!

Awh, I love the 'i played the game so I know more about it' mentality of ex-pros and pundits. Football is a simple game that is made complex by pundits to keep them in a job. Us mere fans who pay our money every week know more than the pundits give us credit for.

De Boer, if confirmed, is an interesting appointment. The benefit is that he's a proven winner, was a world class player and placed a lot of emphasis on youth development, an area which I feel has been neglected since we arrived in the top tier. His name alone will attract talent from across Europe which is also a bonus.

The danger is that his style of play, very much based on possession in final third, just isn't us and it will take a while for him to assert his brand on the team. For all we know, he may be adaptable and mix it up a bit. I worry about this aspect after the Pardew 'team in transition' debacle. But...that seemed to be a lot about neglecting recruitment in key areas, not replacing Mile etc. Maybe, with a decent manager that brand can be adopted. We'll wait and see...

You know what though...this is Palace. Expect Pellegrino to be announced tomorrow! Haha.

Now, lets see a pic where FdB is wearing our colours and our badge, so we can start believing in this.

Then I assume we can hit the 400 pages goal, because of all the moaners that think this is a bad decission.

Just because he has been offered the job doesn't mean he is gonna take it.

Yes this is what concerns me. Could be that us, Southampton, or both of us may wish we had the other one. Hopefully it's not us.

TBF Johnny that's akin to taking advice from such luminaries in the game as Phil Barber and Carl Leaburn...perhaps he just hasnt found his 'fit' yet and we may well be it...only time will tell though

"Crystal Palace have offered Frank de Boer the manager’s job at Selhurst Park.

Argentine Mauricio Pellegrino had also been linked with the Eagles position, but Palace officials believe he is heading to Southampton to replace Claude Puel, having impressed the St Mary's hierarchy during his interview."

This alarms me. It implies that the only reason that we've offered it to FDB is that Pellegrino has decided that he prefers Southampton which puts us firmly in our place. De Boer may (or may not) turn out to be the better appointment but I thought we were on the cusp of being able to attract the people we want, rather than having to settle for other mid-table clubs' leftovers.

Crystal Palace - dull it's not!

In our last few seasons we have started the season off with Holloway, Warnock and Pardew as bosses.

And we're worrying about De Boer being a risk? Sssshh!
