From what I gather "Close but no cigar". Yesterday you insisted that you weren't going to post again in this thread until a new manager was appointed. Please keep to your word and then you can tell us all how you knew all along

Or Pellegrino didn't impress at Palace interview and has rushed down to Southampton to see if they will offer him a job. Meanwhile we have offered our first choice de Boer the job. You can see it both ways, but for Fs sake be positive. I wouldn't be so sure about that but on the scale of wrong decision I've a feeling Southampton are more likely to be making the wrong one more than us. Hopefully that's the case as it'll just mean a lower league position but still safe whereas for us it's closer to danger.

We need to wait for official confirmation before we assume De Boer is the new Palace manager. Don't fret, that'll come shortly after the official confirmation that Sam has left.

Great! FDB has a lot of potential and already is a good manager, I hope he does become our new manager

According to the article in The Independent that I linked to above FDB has had a good look at our squad. If Pellegrino has had a good look at Southampton's squad he may well find that half of them have been sold by the time he gets his feet under the table

From BBC: It is understood he was the first choice of Palace chairman Steve Parish and informed the south London side they were his preferred option. Who knows whats true with all the Southampton and Pellegrino stuff? De Boer may have been our first choice all along. He's got to have something about him to have got the jobs he's had in the past. I'll be happy with him. I dont think de Boer was ever interviewed for Southampton? I think that was because he was seen by them maybe as Palace bound?

Not a neg head. I'd be happy with either FDB or Pellegrino, although I was leaning more to the latter because of his links to Sammy Lee, whom our current players appear to like. My point was merely that the quote indicated that Pellegrino preferred Southampton so we had no choice but to offer it to FDB. In other words, our decision was based on who was left rather than who we wanted. It could well be that this is just the way that the journo phrased it rather than fact. I am 100% behind whichever one we choose. Edited by eaglesally (22 Jun 2017 4.47pm) I'm of the mind that we probably did prefer FdB to Pellegrino anyway but, even if that isn't the case, it would be unrealistic to think we're a more preferable destination than Southampton who are clearly 'ahead' of us as things stand. To call us both mid-table is a bit of an oversimplification. Sure, its probably true, but it is equally accurate to say we've flirted with relegation for each of the last 3 years whilst they've been in Europe twice and flirted with it again last year.

I imagine (hope) that there have been detailed discussions on loads of issues including playing style and how best FdB could build on the 'Palace way' rather than change it into a poor man's ticky-tacky approach?
