De Boer may (or may not) turn out to be the better appointment but I thought we were on the cusp of being able to attract the people we want, rather than having to settle for other mid-table clubs' leftovers. Since when has De Boer been a PL mid table leftover? He's won the Dutch league title 5 times. He will be an excellent appointment and is far closer in culture to the PL than Peligrino. This alarms me. It implies that the only reason that we've offered it to FDB is that Pellegrino has decided that he prefers Southampton which puts us firmly in our place. Or Pellegrino didn't impress at Palace interview and has rushed down to Southampton to see if they will offer him a job. Meanwhile we have offered our first choice de Boer the job. You can see it both ways, but for Fs sake be positive.

From BBC: It is understood he was the first choice of Palace chairman Steve Parish and informed the south London side they were his preferred option. Who knows whats true with all the Southampton and Pellegrino stuff? De Boer may have been our first choice all along. He's got to have something about him to have got the jobs he's had in the past. I'll be happy with him.

Philipp is represented at board meetings by his manager (who is also Markus Weinzierl's manager, used to manage Owen Hargreaves and was captain of Bayern Munich's reserves) a guy called Roman Grill. In contrast to me (and most of the people on here, if they're honest!) he actually knows a LOT about football. (He really does; it's genuinely interesting to hear someonw who works professionally in football talk about the game, it makes the conversations I have in the pub with my mates seem childishly naive.) Anyway, we had a board meeting today and he was there and in his considered opinion, appointing Frank de Boer will be a disaster. I fear the worst! Care to tell us why he thinks this, or didn't you bother asking him?

In our last few seasons we have started the season off with Holloway, Warnock and Pardew as bosses. And we're worrying about De Boer being a risk? Sssshh! Well said. The guys a winner. If you can't be excited by this appointment. Then your never will be.

We look like we might appoint a huge name in the game who has managed some top clubs and people still moan. Plus I got 25/1 on him.

Rejoice, Rejoice, Rejoice - could have been Mr Dyche!!! It's taken a while but SP has his man. Proven winner with great contacts. Feeling very optimistic - even got our red and blue stripes back! Funny you say that the London evening standard is reporting Sean dyche is keen on the palace job
