allardyce. i knew he'd work out, and thought he'd do a similar job to the one pulls did, but with only half the time to do so. he didn't disappoint, we've never beaten so many big teams over the course of a season, never mind a few weeks like that

He got us relegated in two successive years and although he got us back to the second tear he left four years before the famous team of the eighties

But Cannon, Sansom, Doris and Swindlehurst all made their debuts under big Mal, with Walsh, Murphy, Hilaire and Gilbert making the 1st team with Terry Venables who had been Mal's assistant manager/coach the following season!!
So I think Simlaboy using the word 'legacy' is fair comment, even Venables acknowledged big mal's part at the time!!

Burley, after hillsborough and nearly going bust he seemed like a great signing and that the club were on the up.

Murray banging in 30 goals was not dull.

Sam Allardyce. He turned a bunch of headless chickens into a team capable of beating Chelsea and Liverpool in their own back yards and I was excited about what he was going to do for us in the next season

This. Wanted him for a few months before if Pardew f***ed off and when it was confirmed we got him I was buzzing, we just got the best English manager

Was genuinely happy with Ollie. He had been in charge of an incredibly exciting Blackpool team and I thought he was a good choice that got the club. He did nearly botch it, but he is the man who got us promoted and then quit when he knew he couldn't do the job. He didn't let hubris affect the long term future of the club. Terrible in the window but I like him and he is a class act.

Cannon made his debut in Head's last game. Bert had also said that Hinshelwood would have been bloodied if they were further up table. Swindlehurst was a regular with reserves when Allison joined so that was only a matter of time

I remember Ernie Walley !
Think he used to live on the Bromley/Petts Wood border when he was at our club.
He must be in his 80s now.

They don't necessarily have to, of turned out to be the best for us. The manager that before a tactical plan was put in place, left you think I can't believe he's the next Palace manager.

For me it has to be Ian Holloway at the time, 2 years old before he took the prem league by storm with Blackpool. After Freedman leaving I thought that that would of derailed promotion chance.

Who was the last Palace manager that you was excited about.

Tony Pulis
