QUOTE "So you've already decided FDB isn't as good based on one pre season game which featured a whole bunch of young/fringe players, and you think the answer was just to spunk £60million on two players?"

I don't expect FDB to be as good a Premiership Manager as Big Sam because he doesn't have Sam's years of experience as a Manager in this very tough and competitive and high pressure league.

I would have much preferred Palace to do what Bournemouth has done and spend large sums on 2 Proven high quality players (like Sakho , Begovic, Ake and Defoe) given our Prem income and the 2 large sponsorship deals. To develop and move up the Table and keep us out of another relegation dogfight those 2 signings make a lot more sense than signing 4 ordinary players (at this high level) like Loftus Cheek , Adrian, Callum Chambers and even Riedewald.

Focus on winning in the Prem now while you gradually build on bringing through more young players, as they become good enough.

Several top clubs play three at the back in order to provide stronger attacking options,we will not be able to play this system at Palace, I thought the Pardew experiment was proof enough,so know we have another manager "getting us to play on the front foot".All we have landed ourselves with is Pardew mark two with a funny accent.

It's a bit early to be making sweeping statements like that :0)

Evidence so far suggests it could be Pardew Mark 2 but without the fun first year to enjoy.

Let's hope FDB proves us wrong .

Next viewing this Saturday will be interesting.

Come on Frank, let's give West Brom a beating on Saturday, with a clean sheet and lots of shots on target from Palace and proper supply to Benteke .

That did make me laugh, but I think it's a tad unfair. FdB seems considerably more intelligent than Pardew and, if I'm right, he'll see that it's got to be evolution not revolution. In the unlikely event he doesn't, then I'll happily concede that you called it right.

The manager will have learnt a lot from the Liverpool game about who can adapt to a new system and who can't. None of us know how Frank de Boer is going to get on as Palace manager. He might be completely out of his depth or maybe we'll do a Leicester. Who knows? It's certainly too soon to make any judgements.

That showing on Wednesday was alarming , even as a Pre Season game, because after all the work Big Sam put in to solidify the team and make us efficient at keeping clean sheets and winning games it looked like a return to one of the performances we put in under Pardew during 2016.

It really wasn't that alarming, stop being so negative.
To compare FDB to parades is laughable,he had a look at some players so did ok others not.
Delaney will not feature Tompkins or a.n .other cb will come in,dann looked ok wilf was just wilf.
Second half we had loads of kids on.

Really it's the first game in pre season and the pant wetters are out in force.

As has been said evolution not revolution.

Look - I know it's very early days and we can't draw too many conclusions yet, but I do have a few concerns:

Recent palace history shows we fare much better keeping it tight and attacking on the break and horrendously badly when we try and open up and outplay better teams:
Holloway (too open) replaced by Pulis (did well).
Pardew (too open) replaced by Allardyce (did well).

We don't have the players to pass out from defence through central midfield, so we will need wholesale player changes to make that happen.

From the friendly today, we took far too many liberties in deep areas with high risk and little potential reward. In this way I was reminded of Holloway.

The other thing I don't like is how gleeful Parish was with getting FdB in. I wonder whether he has fully engaged his rational mind on this one.

So, I'm not making any concrete conclusions just yet, very early days as we all know. But I feel Frank has to get on with defensive / keeper recruitment pronto.

I'm not the most positive of persons, but I can't believe that you can make a judgement on one pre-season game to Liverpool away in the far East!
Give the guy a chance, let the team settle and get to know each other's game. Then as we start the season, we can start to assess Frank's management potential!

This thread is actually hilarious. Literally who gives a toss about the first preseason match. This is why I hate all this bullsh*t media and exposure trips around the globe etc. Realistically we should be playing Margate or Croydon and getting beat 3-1 and no one gives a toss because it's about fitness and learning the system that was implemented literally 2 weeks before.

Now because it's on sky and it's described as the Asia trophy people start treating the match and the performance like it actually matters. It really doesn't. I expect the system to gradually improve throughout the preseason and us to actually be able to play by the time Huddersfield visit, any results before that mean sweet piss all.
