The President of the United States is also the Commander in Chief of its military forces. It's an official military title because - as a country - we prefer to have civilian leadership of the military. This is so that elected officials are responsible for the actions of the military.

Obama is a cautious man, you can tell this from his often infuriating speech patterns as he pauses in search of the exact right phrasing. It is natural that he would be this way in decision-making over the use in action of armed forces; lives are at stake. I have no doubt that it frustrated military commanders, but it is set up this way on purpose, not by accident.

Obama was chosen by the country to be President and therefore run the military. That's who we wanted in charge. Now it's Trump. That's how democracy works.

As to whether Obama or Trump deserves credit, as I said in my original post, the generals and the troops deserve the credit. Bush gave up (very quickly) looking for bin Laden, but he was found anyway and Obama gave the order to have him taken out. It was the intelligence services and the Seals that got him, but Obama "pulled the trigger" on the mission.

ISIS was already in full retreat under Obama's leadership. They were already mostly out of Mosul and Raqqa was already next on the docket as their last stronghold. You can think what you like, but facts are facts.

Thanks for explaining how a president works.

I'm glad we both agree, facts are facts.

I would credit Obama for Bin Laden's death. OBVIOUSLY the SEALs did the job but Obama was in charge and ordered the hit. He deserves credit for that.

IMO Trump made a bad call on the missile strike on Syria after the chemical weapon attack on civilians in April.

However, as you're clearly so partisan, I'm sure you would find no fault with any of Obama's military (and lack of) interventions at all?

You can dish it out but you can't take it. That's what it boils down to.

Ray is right on this thread, major deflection from you onto circumcision just because that's where you think your most heavy hitting morally argument is.

You encourage people to look back at threads and let them judge. Not a wise move, as you don't half make a doughnut of yerself at times, but you can't see it.

I most activity encourage people to take a look at that discussion on male circumcision and see who said what about it.

I know you're not the sharpest knife Nick, but I just said I respond to insults with insults. I would have thought that this wouldn't be taken as some appeal to innocence.

However, I very rarely label people as racists or fascists... I don't call people 'cunds' like you have. But no I don't claim innocence but I'm far more ethical in how I treat people than you.

I don't know about a deliberate 'deflection'....this guy chose to continue replying on the point until his supporters....you two showned up.

He posts so sanctimoniously on topics that I do admit to the desire to explaining to people that this is a guy isn't in fact very moral.

Again, you're just a hypocrite with this point. For weeks you decided to regularly add that I didn't find anything wrong with the EDL's mission statement on posts that had nothing to do with the EDL....most of the time incorrectly describing me as approving their 'manifesto'...You couldn't even get that bit right. So, again, I'll take no censor from you.

Obama campaigned on ending the US involvement in Afghanistan, and I was all for that. When he got into office, he found he couldn't do it, and we're still there. Now that my wife is heading over there as part of a women's business owners delegation, I wish we had the whole f***ing army there!

There's lots that Obama did (or didn't do) that I didn't like; no candidate is going to be perfect for everyone or even anyone. I look for a candidate with the most overlap in the Venn and live with the differences. My ballot in the last election (we have 30-something choices to make) contained X's for candidates from a wide band of parties: Republican to Green.

Over there, you said you were done with it. Then you bring it up over here - out of the blue and out of context - for why?

You might think it immoral, doesn't mean that everyone else agrees with you.

I find your sanctimony annoying. But yes, it is unrelated.

Well, I asked who didn't agree with me.

Then you and Kermit showed up.

Apart from Bin Laden's death happening on his watch, bringing the thousands of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan was the best thing achieved by Obama. I don't think there was anything else!

Many people believe his strategy for fighting ISIS was one of containment, not obliteration. This has now pretty much happened under the new administration.

Bringing those troops back on that scale enabled IS to fill that space.

It's a good point. My mind has gone blank, were there two withdrawal dates?
