They had the responsibility back in the 90's. And they had the knowledge of what was going on. And failed to do anything.

That is why they do not deserve even the slightest benefit of the doubt because the majority of the population simply do not trust them along with wanting to know who they are seeking to 'protect'? They failed to protect those girls. A nailed on, indisputable fact. And I do not trust them to do so now.

Refusing to publish this report only serves to increase that lack of trust.

Can you offer a single reason why we should trust them now? For me, I believe it was Naz Shah who inadvertently exposed what the true establishment position was. That these girls were considered worthless. A cheap price to pay for 'community cohesion'. And that the same people who seek to squash these findings now genuinely wish those girls had just closed their eyes and thought of a multi-cultural England. A kind of payback for all the Imperial ills of our forefathers.

Make matters worse for who?
I would say, not the victims and their families, I would say not the people covering it up as they know what they did. I would say they think it would be muslims in the UK. Who are protected in a special way now tbh. Why would any sane person think that all muslims are groomers. They are not. The caveat could be that the silence within the community is the same as the professionals who covered it up. Is there really a belief that no one knew in these guys families. I reckon most right minded people would like the truth out, including muslims. This non disclosure not only keeps the whispers going but also aids in the finger pointing.

I haven't read the report any more than you have. So we are both making assumptions. My assumption was that maybe the Police think it could make things worse at this particular time by them having to divert scarce resources. How to reassure the victims and their families is clearly important but that will only be achieved with actions, and not with reports.

My expectation is that something will be released, possibly in redacted form to protect ongoing investigations, when it is considered safe to do so.

Who are "they"? Those dealing with things now were almost certainly not involved then. There was a different culture then. We have learned but then there has been austerity and the cuts to services and the stress it has put those working in those services under. Playing a blame game achieves nothing for anyone. Only learning lessons does any good.

We need to trust them because we chose them. Who we delegate responsibility to is our burden to bear.

How do we know that anything is changed unless a full investigation is carried out? The investigation would recommend changes - perhaps even go as far as to incriminate people.
How do we know anything about it if the information is not made public.
By your logic, Watergate wouldn't have needed an investigation and there was certainly no call to investigate the Brexit campaigns or Trump's election. Both things you wanted an enquiry into.
If the public want an official enquiry into this then there should be a proper, above board one. Then it should be fully released to the public There is no valid argument against this. In fact, you should be angry this is being swept under the carpet. We all should be. Anything that helps peadophiles operate can hardly be allowed to just carry on with our blind trust and deference to our supposed superiors in government.
Why do you want it brushed under the carpet so badly?

1. You don't know they are not the same poeple.

2. Have they learned? Even if these are not the same people what they have learned is you can cover up scandals. To me it is not just about grooming gangs it is the cosy establishment stitch up where the local councillor takes a bung from a property developer or awards a juicy contract.

We need to shine a light on the murky world of local politics and to make it clear that people will go to jail for abusing the their office or turning a blind eye.

Every time we have another Baby P or Victoria Climbie we get the same BS and nobody in authority gets punished in fact the only punishment appears to be a golden goodbye and a fat pension.

Why do you want it brushed under the carpet so badly?

It's a question of whether a situation will be made better or worse, by doing something. In this case releasing a report publically. The government will know they will come in for a lot of criticism if they don't, so there must be some pretty solid reasons behind it. As I said I expect, in time, for it either to be released in full, or perhaps in redacted form.

Watergate was revealed by journalists, not by a government investigation. Nixon resigned before he could be impeached. It's whether the consequential actions are achieved that matter and not whether we get the opportunity to read all the salacious detail. That's what the tabloids want of course.

It's not that I want anything "brushed under the carpet". I don't want things being made public that could impact on the success of investigations and prosecutions. Satisfying a salivating section of the public eager to confirm their opinions of the Police and Social Services isn't on my agenda. Finding the best way to solve the problem is.

Interfering with prosecutions by allowing defence lawyers to claim their client's rights had been compromised by the release of a report would be the best way to "help peadophiles". Keeping the Police's information and future plans secret would help find and deal with them.

In an electoral college system that stinks. He lost the popular vote.

But yes, of course he was chosen and he will be there until next January unless he gets removed by impeachment, death or ill health.

So the USA have to put up with him and just make sure they learn their lesson.

I don't really care too much what party they belong to! Trump is no Republican is he?

Donald Duck would be a better President than Donald Trump. At least he doesn't have bunch of people who think the nonsense he spouts makes any sense.
