I very much doubt though it has anything to do with any kind of cover up, or to protect "people in positions of power". I think it is much more likely to either be because of a desire not to risk compromising current Police investigations and prosecutions or because they don't want to divert attention away from the need to deal with the C19 crisis or that they fear public disorder because the findings are so damning and cannot risk that at the moment. I guess I am just not so sceptical as some. We will, as with Saville, learn the truth in time. Rather an unfortunate example. What justice, or even recrimination, did Savile face? Doubtless he was part of an on-going investigation as well.

The issue here is that this Grooming scandal is already mired in the reality that it was deliberately brushed under the carpet for decades with it being officially acknowledged that both local authorities and police forces sort to prevent knowledge of it becoming known. To the extent that people were forced out of their careers because they sort to expose what is one of the most henious cover-ups of British public life. So to see yet another investigation hidden away offers ZERO comfort to anybody. On this particular issue then absolute transparency is CRUCIAL if public confidence is to return that on-going criminal activities will be stamped down upon. The victims of this scandal were probably the most vulnerable group in the entire country. With many actually in the direct duty of care of various local authorities. They were not only let down but seemingly sacrificed for personal political and career gain. This goes beyond the usual slings and arrows of public discourse. Hiding anything does more harm than good now with nobody of any rational intelligence being able to give those tasked with making this ludicrous decision even the slightest benefit of the doubt. The institutions they represent simply gave up that privilege over the decades of their woeful and criminal neglect.

Everything needs to be considered in it's own context. The Grenfell report was published prior to the pandemic hitting us. No prosecutions were likely to be compromised or public order threatened as a consequence. Why an exercise that predicted the result of a pandemic wasn't acted upon is a matter of genuine concern but one that needs to be given proper time and attention when this is all over. To try to do so now would divert resources and use time which cannot be spared at the moment.

You cannot deny though that these gangs have been operating for many years and very little, certainly initially, was done about them IMO it was totally down to the ethnicity of the perpetrators. I wonder if these were white gangs on Muslim girls, if there would have been the same lack of action?

It's a shame that some people just can't face up to certain realities but debating these things with the dogmatic is pointless.
