The OP is extremely negative at a time we were playing poorly and losing 1-0 at home, did that possibly influence the post?

As has been said, our defence looks really poor. Fosu-Mensah particularly looked all over the place at times and the rest could be ok if they were the only one of them playing in a really good defence and they raised their game, but altogether it's too porous.

However, going forward we are a threat and there are way worse teams than us. Barring bad injuries to key players there's simply no way we'll go down - Hodgson's too experienced and manages the media and presumably the players well. 6 unbeaten, played Burnley and Spurs off the park away and unluckily got beaten - that shows pedigree.

It could go either way of course, but a couple of astute signings in Jan, a fair wind and we'll end up mid-table I assure you.

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely
Mile Jedinak

It's the fair wind that's the problem. Most of the wind lately seems to have come directly from a pig's arse.

Could be worth a try. He had a piss poor game in midfield at Bristol City but who didn't? Not sure he has he featured since.

A few thoughts...
As others have said, Zaha should be on the wing where he can cause damage (as in the last 5 mins last night). Sako would be a better option alongside Benteke if Roy insists on a 442. Loftus-Cheek should be in the centre as he showed for England not wasted out wide where he is anonymous. The problem then is who does he play instead of - we're already not playing Jimmy Mac in the middle who is our best box-to-box midfielder. Schlupp in not a left-back - not sure what he really is as he seems unwilling to attack defenders when he does get forward. PVA makes too many errors there and there's talk about Souare being loaned out in January. Perhaps we could try Riedewald at left-back - he has played there for Ajax?

Also, when we get free-kicks in the middle of the pitch, we just take them quickly with a short pass and then usually lose it again. What happened to lumping the ball into the box? Surely more chance of scoring with Benteke, Dann, Tomkins?

I was thinking about how many points we've lost out on due to luck, not finishing chances, bounce of the ball, individual fvck ups, call it what you will and a post on the BBS shows it towers over the 4 points v Stoke and Watford. Roy therefore deserves these points looking at his tenure to date. But it's noticeable we aren't playing well for most of the game and that has to improve asap to earn and cement some solid points again rather than late scrambles, even though they prove the morale and grit needed for this is there. The way the oppo always look like scoring 2 with us not creating solid chances is a concern.

FWIW I do think we get 'bullied' at times by the more physical teams, e.g. Bournemouth, Watford etc. Sometimes I wish we could dole out some physical chastisement without giving fouls away, but occasionally some of our players are muscled off the ball by the bigger physical specimens that some of the clubs around us seem to have that we don't (Luka and Mamadou are possible exceptions).

Agree with this 100%. Watford were much more physical than us and got 2 nd ball quicker. I was surprised but thankfull that we won.

Most noticeable last night was how we were bullied in midfield but the idea that Roy's playing with the wrong formation etc is crap.

Him and Ray Lew have forgotten more about football than anyone on these boards knows, know the strengths and weaknesses of the squad and came in when we'd given the rest a four game start and pre-season.

Sure they're still learning one or two things about the character of squad but we won last night because he changed things and came up with plan b as the game evolved.

Fantastic moment for McArthur. What a player he's turned out to be. Never sulks, 100% honesty with quality and composure thrown in.
