That's the point I was answering. There shouldn't be 'protected' classes who can't be criticised.

By that rationale it's ok to criticise people based on being born different from you, and nothing more??

Can you see or understand why black people might find it offensive.

Why didn't the bloke get one of his black friends to dress up as Abbott?

Theres a bit of a fixation about Dianne Abbott, she was mentioned a lot in the speeches at the last FLA march.

She is a Goldstein for our age.

Of the 140,000 tweets mentioning the shadow home secretary’s Twitter handle, @HackneyAbbott, one in 20 were classified as abusive. During the six months the tweets were monitored, Abbott received more abuse than all female MPs from the Conservative and Scottish National parties combined.

Abbott told the study her experience as an MP had gone from receiving one racist letter a week to hundreds every day, including letters covered in swastikas and pictures of monkeys and chimpanzees. “It’s the volume of it which makes it so debilitating, so corrosive, and so upsetting. It’s the sheer volume. And the sheer level of hatred that people are showing,” she told researchers.

Abbott said she was “not entirely surprised” she was the main target for abuse but added it was “sickening to see it in figures”.

“It’s highly racialised and it’s also gendered because people talk about rape and they talk about my physical appearance in a way they wouldn’t talk about a man. I’m abused as a female politician and I’m abused as a black politician.”

The only thing I can see is that anyone who is offended by this needs to get a life.

It is pathetic.

It's all very well to say that you should avoid doing anything that might offend people but the very sort of people who are easily offended are also the type who constantly move the goal posts and become increasingly demanding.

No. The line has to be drawn.

'Born differently'....sorry, but it's the second time you've done that.

Everyone is different to you, it just depends upon what you are focusing on. Race is one aspect of a person. No one is to blame for their genetics be it skin colour, height or whatever metric. I don't 'blame' a person for their race.

However, this idea that people can't comment on this or that because.....well, you can attack these people, but you can't attack those people.....because I think so.

Well, I just don't agree with that.

'Blackface' being 'racist' is subjective. It's all about the intent. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. Personally it isn't someone I would do but I don't take kindly to being told what I can and can't do by self appointed 'moral' police.

So all the people around the world who say what Griezmann and matey at the darts did is racist are all blowing pretend smoke?

But it isn't. It's at the expense of her ineptitude as a politician. She is a public figure and is in the firing line for mockery.
Or maybe you think that she should be exempt because she is Black?

I think you are free to criticise it from your perspective.

They are free to answer.

I see no issues there.

I wouldn't do it myself and I can see how it could be done as mockery, but intent is important. I would have to know the person to know the intent.

I know Lenny Henry wasn't looking to insult me when he wore 'white face' in a movie.

Some people are eager to fight battles independent of whether that battle is really there or not.

Just the idea of it is enough.

Not in the slightest, she should be criticised for not being able to do her job properly, having a total lack of grasp of maths, for telling an African News outlet that she had her own political discussion programme on BBC, for not being able to sort that fkn annoying chipped tooth out etc, etc.

Her colour shouldn't even come into it.

We've had discussions on here about this before, and there's no changing your mind, I can see.

Criticise me all you like for taking a stand against your views, I'm happy to go up against you. Historically my family have stood up for what they believed and been assassinated for it.

Your antiquated views will eventually die off with the people that hold them.

I have two sons.

I think you are misguided and I'm also happy to oppose you as you appear to want to restrict other's views. I have respect for people willing to stand up for their views...like I had some time for Tony Benn, but that doesn't mean I agree with them.

I hope they teach you that your views on this subject are wrong. I have a feeling it's going to take someone younger and in your family to even get close to changing your mind.

I'm not restricting anyone from having views, to suggest that is ridiculous, I'm simply saying that 'blacking up' is wrong. You might not find it insulting, but that doesn't mean it isn't, does it? Maybe have a look at the replies Griezmann got for his "Globetrotters Tribute", they'll probably explain it far better than I.
