I can't believe that the FA have given this job to Neville.

His social media comments and gender are a very long way down the list of reasons why he's laughably unqualified for the job.

I still can't believe they sacked the other guy. Totally gutless wimps.

I'm not sure why Neville is well qualified for this job but the country has finally gone mad with the media and the usual identity politics suspects getting involved over some joking tweets he made years ago.
I heard Danny Mills saying that no one can make public jokes anymore unless they are a professional comedian.

Here's my message to him and all the other MAZesque loons.
Kiss my arse. I'll not step on your slippery slope. Your fascism won't change they way I think or my sense the humour. Get a life.

I don't think we're too far apart here, although I don't think that stopping unwanted groping is a function of left vs right wing politics.

You can't stop something that is based upon human nature. Making something illegal just represses it. The problem with this is that it's about perception.....and also people are frequently dishonest if they have an agenda.

I would partly agree that these ideas aren't strictly a left/right idea now....it's modern incantation comes from progressive feminism where men are viewed as predators. Still, while it does originate from the left it's now filtered into the culture of the conservative party....it was also has parallels with the religious rights ideas about access to women...where everything had to be official and dates were closely monitored.

I don't accept these puritan ideas as desirable or practical at all.

What is being pushed here and what a lot of the modern media push....because they have to have their victim/villain narratives.......would lead to a restricted licensed form of sexuality that doesn't take account of the realities of human interaction....it's the state poking its nose into people's lifes when protections against sex pests already exist.

I have social libertarian views and sexuality is one of them. I'm with the French pushback on this kind of repressive restrictive and totally impractical ideas about how men and women conduct themselves sexually.

Anyone who has frequently gone to a nightclub.....would see that this would criminise many many people.

Explicit means unequivocal
in the context of my post. Surely you're experienced enough to know many of the crystal clear ways a woman can indicate her attitude? Social nuances, as you say. I don't get why you assert that blindness to them is the preserve of people with what you call far left views.

I say again....what does this actually mean in practical terms......who decides on what counts as 'unequivocal'. Do we have to record something? Is this going to count for the reverse situation of women coming onto men as well?

It's ridiculous. As soon as this became a law you would be flooded with false claims in with real ones. You would have the sexually awkward criminised.

Frothing politically partisan hyperbole volumes on HOL haven't lessened much since NickGusset's departure.

When people push silly ideas it does get robust treatment...you want to criminise situations which involve misunderstandings and increase the chance that people are arrested and get their lives ruined via dishonest claims....sure that's going to annoy those interested in fairness.

But lets not go overboard. I welcome your views on here. It's just robust debate that's all.

The FA's track record of picking national managers isn't exactly impressive.

@Stirling....

Not editing quotes as I'm on the phone on the train.

Not sure where you got the view that I'm in favour of criminalising perving (paraphrasing). That would be madness.

We need to be very wary of the encroaching snowflake culture, but we also can't excuse blatantly unacceptable or, on the flip side, opportunistic and litigious behaviour.

Haven't our laws done that anyway?

I am suspicious of this new puritan 'metoo' stuff. It's all emotive statements and 'listen and believe'. I don't want it anywhere near our legal system...It's already all over our media and national zeitgeist...we have just seen how close some men came to being imprisoned recently via false claims.

I want a society that is more grown up and less restrictive.....not more buttoned up and permanently apologising for tweets from ten years ago.

The liberalists are coming!

By the way.....A working man on the railways? You must be loaded.

It's one of the best TV interviews for a while for so many reasons.

My take on all the media outrage stuff is that these stories are convenient topics for the "national conversation" whilst all the stuff being done by government and their sponsors to screw everyone talking about the story to their friends goes unreported.

As for the rail use, I must consider myself truly grateful that I am entitled to a standing space most days for my thousands of pounds a year :-) I'd love to jack the London commute in, but I can't afford to for at least another 10 years!

BBC are saying that 6 of their top earning male presenters are taking a pay cut. No details about by how much though. I guess we will have to wait until the Beeb publishes its salary numbers later this year.

Just a thought but the BBC has always defended its high pay structure e.g. Jonathon Ross to prevent its stars being poached. Well if these presenters are willing to take a pay cut I guess that means that the other channels are not lining up to sign them. Something the Beeb might want to consider.

It made me laugh when all the outraged of twitter lot were saying "why lower the men's salary instead of upping the women's?" Cos they're all overpaid and it's public money.

The not losing talent argument is rubbish, as whether you like them or not, the BBC were happy to let Ant and Dec go and they're by far the most popular talent on TV.

Funny how the virtue-signalling Gary Lineker isn't among those taking a pay cut! Unless I've missed it...

I don't believe that the 6 that are, are doing so voluntarily. I think it's because they're all at renewal stage. Could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

Get rid of Chris Evans at £2m+ per year.

3 hours of political analysis, you need to make some friends in LA.

From what I watched Sargon starts off ok but can't stop falling into a rant at the end.
