But when the two are so clearly linked focusing on one will not prevent any further cycle, for now and the next generation, and the next, and the next...

Wonder why the far left focus and protest on the far right and not Islamic extremists?

Exactly it could be a flaw but also protesting against one should not be viewed as condoning the other. Which to be clear I am not saying you are doing but I have noticed this type of stance taken in day to day life.

Do they protest the far right though? I know they think they are the far right but I shouldn't imagine most of them actually know who the real far right are.

Tommy Robinson is definitely very anti Islamic but outside of that politically he isn't that remarkable.....but you wouldn't hear that from the media of course.

The far right aren't a collective, you have different sections who usually don't like each other much.

Like all loose groups you have different grades....I'd say if you want to know the real opinions of the far right you could start with watching Nicholas J Fuentes youtube streams....though he's becoming slightly milder recently.

[Link]

In my view the views of the real far right can be summed up as something like this:

Obviously nationalist.
Especially anti Jewish (something they hold in common with many on the far left) (actually you'd be surprised with how much the far left and right agree on...they just differ on what to do about it)
Anti Islamic.....with anti all religions apart from Christianity....though this is more the US and even there it differs a little
Very socially conservative.....in other words, women stay at home and make babies.
Anti immigration and isolationist.
Anti any homosexuality
West is best
Anti democracy....insomuch as it's being used to destroy their societies by internationalists.
Pro protectionist trade
Anti any diversity
Anti any refugees
Belief that whites are being replaced usually by a Jewish led conspiracy.
Ethno nationalist to the extent that they want a separate white only state (though how separate they differ on)

Someone like Tommy Robinson is about three and a half of those.

Some of it I agree with....some of it I half agree with and some of it I oppose.....but you get called far right anyway.

And of course....we are living in a time where quite a lot of the far left activists even call centralists or outspoken old style liberals and lefties nazis.

But outside of silicon valley and the cowed corporates I'm doubtful of how much real support they have.

What would you say you are? How do you differ from what the far left believe in?

Do you ever sleep?

I think i’m quite centric more than anything. Slight left of it yes but nowhere near the far left (I hope). I’m very liberal in the live and let live sense and also a free market sense. But then I also hate injustice and obvious examples of sexism, racism, whatever.

Called you out on it before that I hate labels. I think it’s very hard to try and pigeon hole someone/put them in a box over what they believe.

I sleep about half the hours of a few years back....it just suddenly happened...weird.....oh and I can multi-task.

So your basically agree with all the far left stuff except for all the beliefs that would interfere with you getting on.

What was it earlier....'historical perspective, white privilege and superiority'?

Thanks for putting that together.

Raises a lot of interesting questions for me like do you have to hold all these views to be considered as holding 'far right' views.
At what point is too soon to speak out against some of those issues before they are harmful (that old snowflake term goes hand in hand there).
Why are we so obsessed with labels when as you've pointed out it often hides that some views held by opposite sides are actually very similar.
When someone holds a view contrary to our own do we take enough time to listen/understand/discover what's led to that point rather than castigate immediately. Online forums I do find are particularly bad for this - an opinion can often be strengthened not by receiving additional compelling evidence but instead by the way others respond aggressively to a view one holds. That I find very worrying.

Ps these aren't questions I'm expecting you to come back with an answer to

In terms of what is reasonable to call far right....that is obviously subjective and people can call a canary a chicken if they want to....but in reality to be taken seriously someone has to actually know what far right opinions actually are.

I use to get called far right by Nick a lot so I actually took the trouble to find out what that actually is.

People speak out against this stuff all the time....in reality it won't make any difference because the forces that govern how much support different ideologies gain is far larger.....You might be able to convince the odd half interested individual but for most it's about as realistic as trying to talk down a priest from their religion.....or someone trying to talk you down from your opinions.

But debate is good all the same.

Because while, in some cases, they are similar (far left/far right...the old horseshoe theory)....they aren't the same. For example, if you look at that list of the most frequent far right opinions....you will notice that a lot of them are similar to Islamic extremists minus the religion.....they are both very socially conservative and so on....but it would be wrong to state that they are the same.

It's fair to say that both Hitler and Churchill were nationalistic for example....but it isn't fair to say they were anything like the same.....Both Hitler and Stalin were authoritarians and similar on state collectivism but hated the small number of differences between them...one divides by class the other by race....those differences mark a Marxist–Leninist from a National Socialist.

So I think labels are important because it allows us to define but also separate concepts....without labels we can't define....I don't regard labels as the problem...the problem is more the lazy people who jump everything in together.

As for me....I'll admit to sometimes using labels to wind up my opponents....but if they seriously upset them I've been known to stop or ask where I'm wrong....when they obfuscate I tend to believe it's a tacid admittance that I'm not that incorrect....But I'm open to that.

Well the Internet is impersonal so there's always going to have an increased likelihood of confrontation over agreeableness or compromise.

If you differ with someone then to compromise or 'understand' you need to build trust and a relationship....Political forums do contain that but in the main they are virtual spaces for cultural and political wars as well.....that's better than the alternative.

And occasionally you learn something or at least improve your debating or English skills.

Do you genuinely think that’s far left thinking? For someone that gets a bit annoyed that Tommy is callled far right do you not just it’s a bit silly calling that far left. I don’t think you’re far right.
