Only in this country would we do this along with persecuting run of the mill soldiers doing their duty in Iraq or Northern Ireland for purported 'War Crimes' but let Peadophiles run amok in Northern 's***holes' almost with Impunity. Where are all the Celebrities & other Luvvies denouncing this madness? Their silence is deafening, I'm guessing this 78 Year old doesn't suit their agenda in that he's white & working class. I don't think you deserve to die for committing a burglary but if you burgle the house of a 'vulnerable' old person and that old person kills you, then I have very little sympathy.
Imagine what it is like to have your possessions stolen by some scumbag and or to be in fear for your or your families safety with little time to think.
If the robber didn't leg it as soon as they heard or saw you then anything could happen.
How much are you going to worry about the law if your life is at risk? And who is to say how much risk you were in after the fact?

Let's not forget he had his disabled wife in the house. I think I might have gone all medieval on the robbers if I though my loved ones were in danger.

One more point

The dead burglar was already wanted, or under investigation, for robbing another 70 odd year old.

Optimistic as ever

Reading a bit about the burglar and the rest of the scum bag family got exactly what he deserved i am afraid. The guy should be released NOT on bail, done the local community a service i feel.
