Firstly defeatist and secondly and more importantly its beside the point - we needed to get some funds in. If its a straight choice between Zaha and AWB then any sane person would take 50 mil for AWB any day of the week. He is a right back. Joel Ward did a job for many seasons without us getting relegated. I dont see Wardy as the answer but we could land a good player for 15 - 20 mil and have 30 mil left over for other requirements in the squad. How many teams around us have a Wilf Zaha running around? None is how many, so we have done pretty well to hang on to him. We are not really a selling club but ffs every now and then you have to understand that a sale is good business. He is a kid and we just got 50 million quid for him. Let's see how much we spend on a right back. Your platitudes bore me. We sold a player purely for money so we are a selling club and we will be the worse for it defensively.

Is it just me, or have we as a club, failed yet again to have a suitable replacement BEFORE we sold Obi Wan?

Really you can always say to a club wanting your best player, well hang on not without a replacement in position, also particularly in Manure situation with an excess of players, who can you offer in part exchange? They just wanted the money. To replace AWB with a player of his ability would cost the same or more, if one was available. It's really saying we know our place and will not be able to challenge. What does RH think, the key will be when he sets out his target for next season, he has been very realistic for the last 2 seasons. That's if he is still here....

That's a worry...

Great bit of business. Would of course have loved him to stay but he is an asset we can’t afford not to cash in on with our stadium plans etc. If he didn’t follow up next season with as good a performance his value would be adversely affected (plenty of young players who sparkled early and faded out), Heaven forbid if he suffered a career ending injury we’d have lost 50 million. Right time to sell. Wish him all the best and hope he continues to improve and fulfil his potential. Thank you Aaron. Come back in a couple of years for £10 million please.

Dougie needs to start earning his keep and get someone decent over the line. Is it just me or does the way AWB goes to ground when he tackles make you wince in case he gets injured? I am all for advocating that we keep for another season and sell for more next summer, but the thought of a serious injury might dent any fee we could get. Also I am not sure who else we have coming through at the academy level. Was distraught when Victor left, but it opened the opportunity up for Wilf. Hopefully something similar here would help.

We wont even use half this money it will disappear like the so called ring fenced money. Why we have not signed anyone is just shocking again and shows the club has no progressed at all. We have needed multi players to cover/compete for years and now having cleared bunch out we should of done something nope so we will panic again end up signing not that great of people for inflated prices.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Did the board cave in to Man U on AWB transfer' by becky Before anyone moans I am a Steve Parish fan. But has the Palace board caved in on the AWB transfer. We were in the strong position. AWB was our player on contract. We wanted 50million up front and a reduction in sell on if Zaha were to leave. So why have we not got that. If Man U want AWB so badly they will agree. And if they say no then we keep AWB. Anyone else thinking the same?

We have taken the money again, and this act will make us a worse team for it. What’s more we didn’t even get 50 million up front, it beggars belief. If our wage bill is so high how’s comes AWB was only on 10k a week? Wilf will be next, just you wait....
