And you wont reach 90 living in Croydon so set your sights a bit lower I reckon.

Haha. If I was in a gang, I'd agree. I'm not, so I disagree. Again, I'm not sure how you can make such assertions when you don't even live here.

The original post was about crime generally yes.
But was it not 2 months ago that them school kids beat up some people outside spoons.
Kids fought kids with fists when I was at school
Adults were generally a no go but now it seems to be a badge of honour to have a go at older people.

Yep. Never said Croydon didn't have issues with crime, and to your point specifically with knife crime, just like a lot of other London Boroughs. From the way people talk, you'd expect to look at a map of knife crime across london and 90% of it to be in Croydon. It's just not true. It's a perception issue.

The example you give is also not exclusive to Croydon. What I reject is the assertion that it is the worst out of the lot. Firstly, it's not true. Secondly people forget it's one of the largest, if not the largest by population, so without context crime figures provide nice hyperbole to reinforce the usual lines when required.

I also take issue with it not feeling 'safe' what consitutes 'safe' to you? I feel safe enough in Croydon on a daily basis. And I live 10 minutes walk from East Croydon station and not in an affluent area such as Sanderstead etc. There is a new 1000 place academy being built near us, the station will be redeveloped over the next 10-15 years, tired and run down areas are being regenerated.

My personal opinion is that broken windows theory applies here, as it does in most cities. But it's nowhere near as apocalyptic as others make out, nor is it any worse than a lot of other boroughs in London. And I can say this with conviction.

Yes Kent is more than just Margate, but it depends on what that 'more' contains. I know it reasonably well but would I want to move there? Is it stimulating? No. Maybe when I'm 90.

If you mean better in the context of knife crime, then that is unarguable. However, as I'm constantly at pains to point out, this is the same for the entirety of London. Croydon has, and will always suffer from entrenched stigma built up and perpetuated over many years. A stigma that I don't think is reflective of the reality. Perhaps in the late 90s / early 00s but not now.

I am constantly out in Croydon, and have been doing so since I was 16. The amount of times I've encountered trouble I can count on one hand.

Is that because you lost your other one in a knife fight?

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

That does also validate my point around perception vs. reality. No-one would bat an eyelid if I said I was moving to Greenwich, Westminster or Southwark. Can't say it would be the same if I said I was moving to Croydon.

So back to statistics tennis. I'm not a fan of this but here goes

Reported crime as a whole has increased by over 20% across London Boroughs over the last five years, from a crime count of 760,00 in February 2014/15 to a total of 913,000 in February 2018/19.

The area with the highest rise in crime is Westminster, with an increase of 35% in the last five years, followed by Haringey (32%), Kingston upon Thames (28%) and Bexley (28%). The lowest increases in crime came from Lambeth (7%), Croydon (10%) and Islington (10%).

Current knife crime statistics place the following above Croydon:

Southwark
haringey
Newham
Brent
Lambeth
Tower hamlets
Westminster
Islington

Using stats like this dehumanises the issue, even trivialises it, but my general point is, Croydon is not as bad as people who no longer live in the borough like to make out. It's the party line, and it's not reality.

Westminster has world-class stuff.....theatres, restaurants, bars, universities,

Lots of the other places mentioned above have way way more of the good stuff than Croydon. Except for Newham....total dump.

You're actually doing this? Do you read? Or just punch in a google search until something comes up that vaguely fits your flimsy preconception and then post it without even thinking.

What is the population of the CR0 postcode (note not the entire borough of Croydon) vs crimes recorded.

What is the average population of the rest of the postcode comparisons vs crimes recorded.

This is why I am yet to be proven otherwise that 95% of people are morons.

100 (last) Southend-on-Sea (SS2) / POP 36,426 / CRIMES 661 / 1.8% of population
2 Croydon (CR0) / POP 153,812 / CRIMES 1,663 / 1.1% of population

CR0 has comfortably double the amount of people living within it than 80 of the other entries on this list. Why people cannot do simple simple balanced and objective deconstruction of statistics, or any source they think supports their 'argument' I will never know.

Note this ratio checks out for pretty much every other column on there.

This isn't even reflective of the total population for the borough, which was the focus of my earlier points, standing at a massive 363,378 as of 2011 (the largest borough by population in Greater London)

If you want to debate total crime statistics properly, come back to me with a similar list comparing whole boroughs.

Unbelievably amateur. The level of intelligent contribution on this site sometimes would do well to challenge the electrical output of an amoeba.
