My beef was with quite a number of posters who did say WH was a rubbish keeper. I have insisted he wasn't and suffered some pretty vile personal insults on here for saying so. I have noted that a lot of posts on this thread are now acknowledging the fact that he isn't a bad keeper after all even if they think VG is the better keeper.

I do understand that the man currently in command stays there unless he suffers a dramatic loss of form or suffers an injury. It's good to know we have a capable back up keeper as some of those saves shown were top class and should show that. Only those with closed minds won't acknowledge that fact.

One fact you mentioned is that Guiata is currently operating behind the 3rd best defence in the league. A luxury that WH has never experienced.

There is the argument of course that could be advanced propounding the opinion that it is the 3rd best defence because of a part played by Guaita in thwarting opposition attacks.

In my humble opinion, Guaita is deserving of wearing the gloves at the present time and that Hennessey is not as dire and abject as many had suggested on HOL.Perhaps on occasions knee-jerk reactions and emotions came into play after a defeat when Hennessey was not at his best.

No, Guita is currently part of the 3rd best defence in the league, something which WH never achieved.

Youíre not suggesting a back four of Ward, Kelly, Cahill and PVA is the best weíve had in the past 5 years, Iím sure.

I'm sure you have noted that I was quoting the previous poster. Are you trying to suggest we are only where we are due to one man. Seems so as you seem to dismiss the fact that Ward, Kelly, Cahill and PVA have anything to do with it.

Exactly Willo just like this forum did when we lost tp Spurs. There was a post (NOT by me) that said the defending was bad and even VG was rubbish.

It doesnít matter who you were quoting; the point doesnít make sense.

Iím not trying to suggest that at all - that would be as nonsensical as your original point.

Do you think Ward, Kelly, Cahill and PVA is the best back four in the last 5 years? If the answer is no, the notion that Guita benefits from something Hennessey never did doesnít hold up.

They have not been our back four all season long, and besides it's not always only down to the back four.The midfielders are also part of the defence.

Very true, itís not always only down to the back four... do you know who else is also part of the defence... the bloody goalkeeper!

Youíre tying yourself in knots here mate.

No I'm not it's you being pedantic. I can distinctly remember on the long WH thread when I pointed out he'd had a good game people used to say "Nah it's down to the defence in front of him" which is exactly my point The inclusion of Cahill has made all the difference and the defence in front of VG is giving him an easier ride overall. If you are still insisting you are right
then the fact that we have avoided relegation for the last three seasons must have been down to Hennessy as much as anyone.

Your inability to process basic logic is quite something - what someone else said, on another thread, is of no concern to me; they could have been wrong, the same way you are here.

Anyway, youíre clearly willing to die on this particular hill, so Iíll leave you to it - itís really not difficult to see that Guita is a considerably better keeper though.

So there is no confusion. I still think that Hennessy is a sh*t keeper, who makes the odd good save. Like Akinbiyi was a sh*t forward who scored the odd goal.

Hennessey is okay as a squad keeper but was stretched as a 1st team, PL keeper.

Guaita has added some physicality to his game this season and now looks a very decent PL, first-team keeper. Even if he also can't kick to save his life with his wrong foot!

I don't know who our 3rd choice is, but Guaita and Hennessey are about right for our needs/financial status.

Just to clarify.

VG = good
WH = sh@t

Close the thread

So it's turned into another Wayne Hennessey thread.

Guaita is a better athlete, positions himself better, is braver in his decision making, has better hands and better reflexes, quicker around the goal and our results improved as soon as he came into the side.

Wayne, at times, hasn't looked like he wants to be there. Even VG's body language is better.

Clearly an upgrade.

With regard to previous Martyn was a fantastic keeper back in the day but my recall was that his command of the box and dealing with crosses wasn't that great and why he never really displaced David Seaman despite being a better shot stopper and Seaman having a rick in him. This at a time when the ball was moved slower and the game not as fast generally.
