What may I ask is a 'Lexicon' ?

Apropos 'Leonard Sachs' in the link - those were the "Good old days".

Returning to Simon Jordan, apart from the erudition he oozed on the panel,he was also the very portrait of suave aplomb.Top-notch performance, hats off !

Clark Gable with a noble head of hair oiled for the occasion.Such a handsome Hector ,far removed from my craggy features and wobbling dewlaps !

I recall those halcyon days when I used to avail of Brylcreem and Silvikrin oil and used to groom myself each morning akin to an owner of an Afghan hound at Crufts.

Returning to Simon Jordan on the panel, I noted he wasn't the Cuprinol man he once was with a fresh from the rotisserie complextion.Needs to avail of more Sol in Espana !

Anyone listen to Danny Kelly and SJ's podcast, Boot Room to Boardroom? Is it much cop? It's about football finance and I would be interested to know if the big 6 are about to monopolise the league for the next few decades. Maybe even break away to a European Super League? Perhaps the best position we can hope for in future will be 7th.

Digression from the topic title (I too thought Simon Jordan came across surprisingly well on Question Time) but picking up on the European Super League issue, I am surprised no-one has yet referenced Steve Parish's article on the subject in last week's Sunday Times.

I attach a copy ....

Came up unreadable to me - think the Times has stopped it from being copied and pasted.

Oh no! To get in to the Champions League, you'll have to win the Premier League first. Whatever next?!

Yes - a true Champions League should consist only of champions!

However, under these proposals, the champions would join the favoured few who would qualify automatically each year as 'big' clubs, the justification being that these big clubs require certainty of their revenue stream on an annual basis, in order to remain big!

Struggle to see why he is even on. What does he actually do these days aside from harp on about the past, stick his nose in as a rent a gobs##te or tell the world how hard done by he was.

Suspect with that resume he would fit in very nicely with most retired politicians. Hopefully the technicians managed to tune up the orange filter on the contrast.

Always made me laugh that Fergie was against the current CL system. He thought only the champions of a country should make it into the competition then he went and became the first one to win it by not qualifying as league champions.

That aside, football is corrupt and has been for a while. You only have to look at the Baku shambles for that.

No one's saying he is stupid but you have to wonder what he has done to make the BBC consider him an authority on Brexit.

SJ has said he is very ambitious, but that his focus on achievement in the past, led to errors where he 'could have done things better'.
Administration and being a father seems to have made SJ more reflective and an active learner. He is still entertaining to watch, and for the most part (of the Brexit discussion) he was bang-on-the-money.

Such subjectivity is why I don't read any of your articles.

He sold a chain of shops for 70 million when he was in his early 30s. He ain't that stupid.

His expertise in one area didn't translate into football. He also left the day to day operation of the club to his brother Dominic and didn't keep a close watch on things. Finally, his use of a legalised loan shark for a cash infusion put the club into bankruptcy. He simply wasn't wise in the ways of how a football club is operated.

On the other hand his exposure of the double dipping that player agents indulge in (the Tim Cahill affair) is still causing repercussions world wide. I still can't fathom how an employee of a player feels entitled to a pay out from a club. In the USA, that would be an illegal kickback. No wonder our Justice Department has ongoing investigations into worldwide football shenanigans, even under Trump & Barr (no relation).
