I have just realised where I know JRM from:

Absolute b****cks. You really think this would apply to a Corbyn government that would be a puppet for the Unions and Momentum?

Whether governments meet their obligations or not doesn't change the fact that those obligations exist. If they fail then it's down to us to shine a fierce light on their failure.

All MPs, whether part of a government or in opposition to it, are representatives of the electors in their constituency. They are not the delegates of sectional interests.

I have had this argument many times with Corbyn supporters, who often fail to understand it either.

Well good luck convincing large swathes of people outside the south east that they were represented by the Thatcher government.

I refer you to my previous answer.

And I refer you to the mass resentment that still exists among people who felt completely excluded.

Sorry to bump this. A little chatter out there about rumblings from within the Conservative Party about a potential attempt to oust Johnson from number 10. Supposedly being formulated from within the 1922 committee.

LOL. I suspect it is pure froth (although to be fair one of the sources is usually more right than wrong) but would make my claims of Johnson's security of tenure in Downing Street take a battering.

Lets see.

Where have you heard this? I cannot find anything about it anywhere!

It seems really unlikely to me. Surely the Tory membership take the decision and not the Party HQ, the MPs or a small group of MPs.

I cannot see anyone seriously thinking that this is a good time to change the PM let alone that it has any chance of succeeding.

Could you see the membership wanting anyone else?

My understanding is that it is being orchestrated from within the 1922 committee with Javid and Hunt being touted as possible heirs.

As I said, it is barely a whisper and outside of one source that I give some credence too, nothing from any of the more mainstream commentators.

I suspect, if true, then it is primarily about upping pressure on Johnson over an extension to Brexit come the end of June. Still too many Remainers inside the Tory Party, especially amongst the old guard. Issue is that all the usual suspects were booted out so I suspect you will not see a particular figure of any significance making to much noise (No obvious Ken Clark mark 2's as far as I can see) so it will have to be more a whispering campaign with this perhaps the start.

I would have that as much chance of flying as a pig! At the moment anyway.

I imagined this was coming from the right wing about wanting to release the C19 lockdown more swiftly. Not about Brexit, which is hardly on the public radar now.

Of course I disagree about too many "remainers" in the Tory party. I don't think that there are any now. We have left. There will be some who take an inflexible view on the next step and others who want a more flexible response as a consequence of the pandemic. Just as I do. That though is another debate!

Whatever the reasons for the rebels this will not go anywhere. Most Tory supporters will not forgive or forget disloyalty in a time of national crisis. It will only change if Boris becomes toxic, look at Mrs May she held on because the rebels couldn't force her out and only resigned because Parliament wouldn't budge.

Simon Heffer, about as Tory as they come, seems to be of a similar opinion.

Interesting article with many of the anti Tory Government quotes coming from "an ex Tory Minister." Could it be sour grapes from someone that Boris didn't want in his ministerial team.

I think that most of us who voted for Boris did so on the basis that he would make a good chairman of the board knowing that he wasn't really a suitable managing director whose role encompasses more of the I dotting and T crossing.
