Thomas Cook is a much-loved brand and still doing a lot of business. I am quite happy with the High Street for holidays myself. It is over 150 years old, a couple of months to make a rescue package and return to profitability should not be beyond the financial people. I would be happy my taxes were used to that effect, rather than spend 88 billions on a railway line that may never operate. What about all the distress, all the people losing their jobs?

So probably insolvent and the CAA doesn't like that.

Problem is the capacity on flights, hotels, transfers, everything has to be full or near full to capacity or it’s losing money. 165,000 sounds a lot but it would probably be more if it was successful. Plus they’re trying to be competitive vs operators with one call centre. There’s one on south end in Croydon (or was a few years ago) opposite Leon House. One premises vs 550 shops and a good few staff in each isn’t it? They don’t even get many people using The bureaux de change in these shops any more. Everywhere does it now for more convenience. I can’t say it’s a shop I’ll miss or notice not being around any more. Shame and harsh for the staff though.

The High Street is expensive and really not needed in this day and age in this industry. I can't honestly remember the last time we used one. It's an out of date concept.

Got back from a TC holiday last week, fortunately. A woman I know was due to go away with them on Wednesday, to Ibiza. Luckily her holiday was ATOL protected, but by the time she gets her money back, the season will be finished
