‘16 year old Greta Thunberg is too young to make up her own mind and being exploited’ scream the exact same people who said that 15 year old Shamima Begum knew exactly what she was doing and should be treated as an adult...

At this point if you don’t believe that climate change is a very threat to the way we continue to live you have not been paying attention. A lot of people on this forum aren’t big fans of immigration but once countries like Bangladesh start flooding those people are going to have to go somewhere. Why not support political action now to avoid all those people being displaced?

Have you really thought that through?

Immigration from Bangladesh or indeed any other relatively poor country is going to happen anyway. Indeed as development and help increases their living standards then at a set point a higher percentage of 'bangladeshes' will be able to afford the trip to Europe to earn more.

Work on climate change now isn't going to seriously affect anything in the environment for decades anyway.....it would be nothing but slowing down the rate of increase for a long time.

As climate change worsens it's going to affect the poorest who can't move so easily.....So the poorest won't be affording Europe anyway and would be moving within their own continent.

So because we aren’t going to see the benefits for a long time we shouldn’t start now? The major cathedrals of Europe often took centuries to complete. Set the wheel in motion now so future generations can feel the benefit.

And as those places within their continent fill up, the next rung up the economic ladder will move to less densely populated areas / areas with more opportunities and so forth. If we can do something to encourage people to stay where they are I say go for it.

Additionally as we decrease our dependancy on gas / oil, we become less reliant on fossil fuels from the Middle East, which means the profit margins for Western intervention wars decrease, which means less migration as people can stay in their homes as they aren’t reduced to rubble. Win, win as far as I see it.

To be fair, that is a valid observation. Personally I think this Swedish girl is being exploited with the same justification as I have used for why Shamima Begum should be deemed as the UK's responsibility because she was also a child when she was groomed by adults seeking to exploit her naivety and use her to promote their sick cause.

If someone feels that climate change is going to devastate others before them, their sense of urgency will be proportionate to how they feel about those people.

With some elements on the right, she's treated this way because she's differently brained. It's clear from the language used ('has many mental illnesses' etc) that's behind a lot of it. And with elements of the left the same attribute instead becomes a cloak of sorts protecting her from criticism.

The perils and pitfalls of viewing others' humanity through a political lens.

Most migration is internal. It's not just a question of means but also because most people like having their family and friends around.

Climate change is already causing resource scarcity, conflict and refugees. See Lake Niger for example, or the islands affected by rising sea levels and increases in ferocity and frequency of typhoons.

Sure, but you're not really addressing my points.
