What a good window to me would be the below, drastically lowered wage bill which means we can spend again.

BUY

RB Fergusson (Signed)
CB ??? (Someone around the age of 25 mark)
LM Fraser (50k offered)
CAM Eze (12m rejected)
RM Sarr (Rumoured when Wilf goes)
ST Taylor (Free)
ST Watkins (Probably around 18m)

SELL

Sakho (Going back to France)
Benteke (Anyone desperate)
Wickham (Free somewhere)
Wilf (40m back to Utd or Arsenal)
Meyer (Roy don't like him obv)

That's a good list, but I don't think we should sell either of our strikers. Sakho is a good CB but error prone and always injured. I can't see too many buyers for him. We might have to sell at a big loss

CB Woods. Former academy POTY. Been on bench for quite a while. RH has gone with kouyate as sub in extremis but wonder if Woods now ready to step up and leave CK to DM?

If so he would join Dann as back up to Cahill and Tomkins

We will undoubtedly have to sell at a great loss, the sooner the better given his wages and lack of available playing time.
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and move on.

If we get rid of Sakho and Benteke we will have to write of £40m to get them off the books

But next year they will leave for nothing, even £5m each this year must be better and £200k a week off wage bill

I don't see Benteke going. He may even get another extension (on lower wages, hopefully, if he does). It may be a case of biting the bullet on Sakho this year and taking the hit on Benteke a couple of years down the line. Of course, if suddenly started to score goals on a reasonably regular basis ( ) we might even get a few quid for him!

I followed his loan, played the 1st match, did a shambles in the second, played from the bench at the third, and never played any more until the season got interrupted.
At Hamilton academicals...
I guess he might need a good solid season at Championship/League 1 level before being considered.

Parish is criticised here for loving a free transfer, but who can blame him?
He's been killed when he's splashed the cash.

His first banner signing (£10m) was Yohan Cabaye, who left the club for nowt and could only play 70 mins a game in his last season.

Big CB was huge for Parish, (£30m) blowing the club's transfer record out of the water.

But 6 league goals in the last three season's for our #1 striker. Someone's having a laugh at Parish's expense.

Then £26m..ish on MS. Played in 14 league games last season and will leave for a pittance of that sum.

In an age when clubs are selling their star players for 60,70,80,90 million Parish must be pig sick.

IMO we got our money’s worth out of YC, Luka not been the same player since he left

Yeah I'd agree with that. The guy oozed class, shame we didn't have him earlier in his career. Read the game so well that it felt like he intercepted most opposition attacks.

Otherwise, the previous post is bang on. Every time we've gone big it's backfired - even with Sakho who, based on his loan spell, looked a sure fire winner.

The big difference vs other clubs is that the young gems they tend to sell for £60m - £90m are those they pick up from abroad or the Championship with a bit of a gamble (the Mahrez, Mane, Maddison, Gomez, Ndidi types).

We tend to go for free/low value transfers from other PL clubs where the player is older such that the likelihood of that player actually being £60m-£90m player is very, very low.

You know what you're buying - it's a 6/10 transfer (McCarthy), but you're very confident it wont be a 3/10 (Joelinton) at the expense of knowing it won't be a 9/10 (Saint Maximin).

That's what makes the thought of Ferguson, Eze, Watkins interesting. They could become 9/10 signings.
