Compared to the rest of us they have done very well and stand at 92 deaths. I don't know about the stimulus but the 'national emergency' doesn't involve locking down the country like we have and telling people to stay home. It is therefore a good thing. For example preparing for testing which is the crucial next step. We moved too slowly to get that benefit. Maybe on purpose to fill the hospitals quickly and start the wave in time so that it peaks before the autumn

This virus will spread at similar rates or slower, if there was going to be a spike in Japan then you'd have seen it by now. The virus will spread however, if you have isolated the vulnerable and cultural behaviours limit the level of spread then the virus can only impact so much. I believe time will show that we significantly over reacted and that there were more effective and less economically drastic measures available.

Globally Governments have decreed that 'Lockdowns' to reduce transmissions is the right approach.Time of course will tell if this, on balance,was the right policy. In terms of schools in the UK, some scientists believe that closing of these educational establishments has limited impact whereas others believe such a policy plays an important role. Lockdown or no lockdown is the only option where we are now. Sorry to be so blunt but why we’ve had lockdown or no lockdown as the only option is another issue. The hospitals really are full and that’s a big part of the decision. Further, apart from Germany who are light years ahead of us in many things and Sweden which is completely different to a ALL London Boroughs, Birmingham, Manchester etc, I don’t know who you’re comparing us to apart from South Korea monitoring people on their phones, China lying, or Japan who are again on another planet in terms of preparation and obedience for anything really. I can’t understand your keenness for everyone to get out there when you’re prepared for an indefinite lockdown, unless I have that wrong.

I heard that dr sarah say yesterday that she expects elderly people to be free to go out once we’re on the other side of the curve at its symmetrical lowest. If it peaks they’ll be advised to stay in again. I’m expecting the lockdown to end when we’re on the part of the curve they’re waiting for, not a specific date in an ever changing situation.
