‘A few months for a vaccine (hopefully)’

Keep hearing and reading it.

It’s actually funny. But problematic.

If you keep repeating it, people will believe it, and one day it will probably be true, one day!

Logically it is quite likely to be, for vulnerable groups. It's hardly that out there considering the work put in and number of vaccines in the works.

A vaccine is what is likely to be keeping a decent percentage of vulnerable and elderly alive next year so perhaps it's one aspect of this that we shouldn't be rubbishing. But then in keeping in line with the rest of the one eyed tripe in this thread I guess its to be expected.

Perhaps it's a good idea to not become so entrenched in a specific outlook that you start posting articles you haven't even read just because you feel they will support your outlook. Echo chamber gone mad.

It’ll be an article of the collection of everything lots already said no doubt. And he has commented a lot on Sage. I’ve read a few twitter accounts on the other side. Ask them when on the vaccine and they never answer. ‘Cross that bridge when we come to it’ is all we get. They never say when they won’t keep waiting.

A vaccine with a few months of safety tests as opposed to years is worth the risk to those at risk anyway. Depends how at risk too.

Yes, those who could potentially most benefit from it, will no doubt be first in line due to their higher risk. It is their best shot at getting back to a semblance of normality. Our and others best minds and efforts are geared towards it (with different 11 vaccines in mass Stage 3 testing). It's of course a very expedited process which creates unknowns (some of these vaccines are likely to be more effective than others, and some duds), but due to the nature of the situation we're in, if stage 3 results be positive I would be surprised if hundreds of thousands or millions even haven't been vaccinated by sometime in January.

They can't really be super specific because it's dependent on the Stage 3 results of multiple different vaccines. We do know that they are already being mass produced though and so as a very best case scenario if trials are what we're hoping for, then I don't suppose the end of this year is out of the question. If results of all trials of multiple vaccines we've 'bet on' are disappointing then there would likely be a delay and we'd have to look to the results of those being used elsewhere.

It's irrelevant to many demographics really, but for those who it could potentially protect from serious consequence (elderly, vulnerable, perhaps keyworkers) it's understandably something that it's both fair to both hold out for and hold out hope for.

Again, you can both believe that we should keep businesses open and so on, but also hold out hope for something like this. Not every single aspect of efforts to protect needs to be greeted with cynicism or disinterest just because you'd rather we didn't have to deal with any of it. We do. The old and vulnerable ain't wishing this one away and a vaccine becoming available could make a substantial difference to their lives.

That is an excellent article Rudi. Far more compelling in its analysis than others I have read.

If articles highlighting the opposite opinion were as clear, well thought out and evidenced as this then a sensible debate would be far easier. But they are not. I think I know who I believe.

Very interesting tweet from Chris Green MP Bolton who resigned from the Government front bench this week making reference to the fact that these tier lockdowns are set to be in place for YEARS!

I don’t believe that this was a typo...

Not sure how you add a tweet here so if anyone can do this it would be appreciated?

She already paid. It's called National Insurance FFS! Brought in when she was younger. You want it for yourself, but want her to pay for it again. Pathetic!

I see arithmetic isn’t your strong point

And she stopped paying long ago.

Not sure if I’ve found it but to copy a tweet link you have to go the bottom right of a tweet, tap on the small upward pointing arrow inside the 3 lines shaped like the bottom half of a square. Then you copy to clipboard and paste here or wherever you like.
