Quite possible the virus will advance the break up of the European Project and single currency. UK may well find the Channel is of great importance in many ways. IMHO EU countries without proper borders and huge numbers of people allowed to enter on political grounds will have huge issues. It is important we are able to effectively identify refugees and separate them from economic migrants. The days of young men travelling around in groups and claiming to be 15 etc etc has to be stopped. Refugees must be protected
Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace |

Not sure. If I had to go out on a limb and make predictions I suspect that it will be the success, or an almost 50-50 vote, for Le Pen in 2022 in France that finally collapses it all. France itself is heading for even more major civil strife and throw in an Italy in which Salvini has to be odds on favourite to take full control and the internal EU pressures will bring about a messy implosion. Simply put this crisis is going to break Italy and Greece due to the collapse of this year's tourist business and with a possibility of dragging on into 2021. Spain could be in huge trouble and all nations without the ability to control their own currency by way of trying to alleviate the worst of it. This virus has the potential to be as history-changing as both World War 1 & 2. Perhaps the break-up of the EU. Lots of countries which have a large tourist industry will struggle. And who can bale them out ? Humans have become too dominant as a species on this planet. Perhaps viruses will be natures way of keeping tabs on population growth.

If mine or my family’s life was in danger and I had to flee then as soon as I crossed a safe border I would fall to my knees and thank God. I wouldn’t then carry on across another dozen borders to get my country of choice. As you say, all who arrive here are economic migrants as the UK does not border anywhere with troubles. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with people wanting a better life, but we need to say it how it is.

Russian nationalism won't matter. They will be hit hardest of all - if they were pre-empting the virus with any vigour, we'd all know about it.

I'm not being critical, many people do and I've never really thought about it.

Edited by Forest Hillbilly (01 Apr 2020 1.51pm) Man, there is going to be so much fallout because of this. I have no idea what the world looks like in five years time.....I will be highly surprised if it's all the same.

Probably go back to the 70s where we were all poor but at least 'we was happy' apparently.
