The conversation to a prospective manager might go down the path of :

"We need to replace most of our "Dad's Army" and bring in replacements"
"OK,how much is the transfer budget?"
"Not a great deal, limited amount"
"Thank you very much, have a good day" - Phone goes down!!

Do you honestly think Chelsea will offer a young English manager a job??.. The only reason Lampard got it was due to his legendary status at the club.

6 months out of football is hardly a long time.. When I read some of the posts on here I struggle to understand why some people seem to think that we should just be grateful to have Roy and that we can't do any better.

Love this.........Not so much the Eddie Howe. But you seem to be one of the very few on here that knows, believes we are and wants a lot better! Luv the mindset

We don't have the money........Are you drunk!?
We haven't got the team.........Are you feeling ok!?
Remember where we was a gazillion years ago.........Hush your gums!!!
We're little old Palace.......ZZZzzzzz

And the list goes on with so much gratitude for meodioricty (I don't care if I got it wrong for any grammar police, I still got light years more about me than you)

Fair Play my guy

I've always been grateful for Roy and what he's done. I think after Sir Steve, I will look back and see him as our second best manager in my time supporting Palace from the early 70's. He has done a great job with limited resources after Pardew and BFS spunked relative fortunes on players.

However, over the last season and a half, the football has been dire for much of the time. Virtually half the squad needs replacing and it would seem the right time to bring in a new manager and a philosophy of playing a more interesting style of football.

After 8 seasons we are still surrender possession and some times can't string 4 passes together. It's become a awful watch. For me it's become time for a reset, whether that means relegation or not. Time to try and at least entertain the fans.

How long do we want to be keep just surviving serving up anti-football. We will be relegated eventually anyway.

Have to agree with much of this. Iíd add Terry V the to the list just behind sir Steve.

Not very bright are you? You seem to get easily confused.

If I did play along with your laughably poor attempt at a rebuttal, why would recent or non recent make any difference to my point that mangers can improve players ability.

Apologies Iíll take back my div comment. You are just plain stupid.

Classy. Throw some more insults.

Meanwhile, see if you can find something else from over a decade ago as evidence of improving a 29 year old. Even though the players mentioned by you were in their early-mid 20's when managed by Houllier.

You have also stated numerous times that we donít have a managerial vacancy and nor do you expect there to be one.

Good post and I also echo these sentiments.

If, as several Members on here keep telling us, we are safe this season and in zero danger of going down, then what better time to install a new manager and let them start to build from now on?
They have a free hit for the rest of the season, 18 games to work on things...rather than a new manager getting off to a bad start next season and things getting real serious real soon.

I wasn't advocating a Freedman/Derry "Dream Ticket", I thought I would frivolously place it into the debate for discussion!

Both players were 27 actually when Houllier arrived. Give it up mate. maybe just watch your tone. Never understand posters like you with the way you talk to to other palace fans. your virtually blocked as far as Iím concerned. Byeee

I do feel many supporters have deemed that Mr Hodgson has done a creditable job in the circumstances, keeping us in the PL for 3 seasons on a limited spend and at present there is some 'Daylight' between our position and those in the relegation zone.

"Done" is both correct & past tense.

Roy lost me after the FA cup shambles when he could either have unleashed the reigns & told the team to attach / enjoy themselves OR played the kids.

He chose to make us, the fans, suffer with a formation & tactics which had "nill" as the guaranteed score line - when there was really f**k all to lose.

I have a direct question to Willo.

Which is the more honourable end for a manager who HAS done a great job & who deserves our respect;

Is it a painful goodbye "whilst there is daylight" but with legacy in tact.
or
linger on with loyality as the "daylight" deminishes, with the very real danger than his complete legacy is undone by a final relegation (which will be the "achievement" which people remember.

???

27 when he left. Both clubs. You want to block me? Your choice. But it seems you are doing so as your facts don't stand up. Run away if you wish. It seems to be the way now days. No argument? Cancel the opposition. Live in your echo chamber. Feel smug.

I am reminded of the saying "Between the devil and the deep blue sea".
Both a "Goodbye" before the end of the season and a relegation will be very distressing for Mr Hodgson.
It could be argued that all the time there is "Daylight" there is no need to upset the applecart.
